Fellini’s 8 1/2 is the director’s surreal commentary on the nature of creativity.
8 1/2 was really Fellini’s opus number for this film. He had made eight films and
one short film by the time he was ready to begin on what would become his masterpiece. The poster is appealing for its stark modernist graphics.

A great poster showing “Dizzy” Dean throwing in the days of the “Gashouse Gang” The film’s a wonderful biopic of one of baseball’s true originals. Very timely in an era when sports heroes are suspect for all their follies.

The poster borrows visual design from European movie posters of the time –
just as the film does from the art house sensibilities of movies it tried to emulate. The movie was overlooked in 1967, but today it stands as one of the true avant garde films of the late 60s.

This wonderful early seventies poster represents the transformation of the gangster film from the romanticized acceptance of criminal figures to the more malevolent and real-world view. The dark images harken to the evil inside all the characters, their impetus to self-preservation and the irony of any them actually being “friends.”
