Original Paramount Pictures Pressbook (13×15) but without the accompanying ad supplements for the Francis Ford Coppola crime thriller masterpiece, THE GODFATHER (1972) starring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall. This unforgettable film is the story of an aging mobster patriarch (Brando) who wants to transfer control of his clandestine empire to his reluctant son (Pacino). Considered by most critics to be one of the greatest films of all time, the film captures some of the most hidden and guarded secrets of the underground world. The film won the Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actor to Brando, and Best Screenplay to Mario Puzo and Coppola. This is a relatively modest pressbook – more of a press folder really. Surprising that such a monster film would have this modest pressbook. But Paramount by no means knew that this film would become a pillar of U.S. cinema history. Such are the exigencies of Hollywood Bally Hoo. There was an Ad Supplement for this pressbook, which had the newspaper ad mats for the film. We do not have that – admittedly the more boring part of the pressbook. Very good condition.

DOG DAY AFTERNOON (1975) 9379

Original Warner Brothers One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Sidney Lumet crime drama black comedy, DOG DAY AFTERNOON (1975) starring Al Pacino, John Cazale, Charles Durning, and Chris Sarandon. The film is based on a Life magazine account of an actual robbery. Sonny (Al Pacino) and Sal (John Cazale) are two desperate New Yorkers who rob a bank in Brooklyn, but their plans for a quick and clean getaway degenerate into a prolonged hostage negotiation. The ordeal turns into a massive spectacle, and the two amateur criminals find themselves notorious socio-political icons when their sexuality, military background, and personal woes become the subject of public scrutiny. The production of the film is infamous; most of the dialogue was improvised from a very basic script, and the demands placed on the actors were so stressful that Pacino became clinically exhausted during the shoot. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very good condition. There are some extra creases and pinholes in the corners. One of the great Lumet films. Original United Artists one sheet poster (14×36) for the William Friedkin crime thriller, CRUISING (1980)—starring Al Pacino, Paul Sorvino, and Karen Allen. This fictional account of a series of gruesome killings of homosexual men by a serial killer in modern day New York City is very dark and disturbing. While plagued by numerous demonstrations during production, the film encountered serious protests upon its release by gay groups who felt the film encouraged homophobia by concentrating on a small minority of hardcore S&M enthusiasts. But some would argue that Friedkin believes that ugliness is at the base of all human existence. Audiences were also unsettled by all the “ambiguity” that the film presented. But Pacino’s performance was excellent, and the documentary style made for excitement and fascination. Friedkin creates a dark and frightening atmosphere, totally enhanced and complimented by a remarkable musical score. This original one sheet poster is in very fine to near mint condition. No fold separations. Folded but clean.

Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Francis Ford Coppola epic crime drama, THE GODFATHER: PART II (1974) starring Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, and Diane Keaton. Considered by many to be one of the best movies of all time and arguably the best gangster movie of all time, this Coppola masterpiece won six academy awards including Best Picture, Best Director to Coppola, and Best Supporting Actor to Robert DeNiro, much of his dazzling performance being spoken in Italian with English subtitles. This beautifully crafted film presents two parallel storylines of the slow moral decline of Michael Corleone (excellently portrayed by Al Pacino, who was nominated for Best Actor) and flashbacks of the rise of Michael’s father Vito Corleone (in an Oscar-winning performance by DeNiro) from his youth in Sicily to the founding of the Corleone family in New York. The beautiful cinematography by Gordon Willis used a tint in the flashback sequences giving them a softer, richer look than the very sharp image of the contemporary story. This authentic one sheet is in theater-used good condition and has one additional fold. We recommend linen backing for this poster and we have priced it accordingly.
