Original 20th Century-Fox Scene Lobby Card for the Joshua Logan romantic comedy, BUS STOP (1956) starring Marilyn Monroe, Don Murray, and Arthur O’Connell. BUS STOP was written by William Inge. Inge had won the Pulitzer Prize for playwriting for PICNIC in 1953. Immediately after PICNIC came the play BUS STOP. This is the story of innocent rodeo cowboy Bo (Murray) who falls in love with a caf√© singer Cherie (Monroe) in Phoenix. She tries to run away to Los Angeles, but Murray finds her and forces her to get on the bus back to his Montana ranch. Monroe creates one of her most memorable and deeply touching characters in “chanteuse” Cherie. In his book on Marilyn, the writer Norman Mailer asserts that the actress never looked more ravishing than she did in BUS STOP. The character of Bo was Murray’s first and best-remembered screen role and netted him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. William Inge later won an Academy Award for his screenplay SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS. This original scene lobby card is in fine condition, with only minor surface wear and a minor hole in the middle of the upper border.
