full.trapeze-front of house set-4947

Original Set of 8 British Front of House Cards (8×10) for the Carol Reed circus drama, TRAPEZE (1956) starring Burt Lancaster, Tony Curtis, and Gina Lollobrigida. One of the best circus films ever made, the story revolves around three trapeze performers. Mike (Lancaster) was a great trapeze artist before his accident. Tino (Curtis) joins the circus and convinces Mike to teach him the triple somersault. Lollobrigida adds sex appeal to the trapeze act and is also emotionally involved with both artists. Lancaster performed all of his trapeze stunts himself, as he had been a circus performer before he entered pictures. He even convinced Carol Reed to let him do the climatic triple flip. These original British front of house cards are slightly worn but overall in fine condition. One card has some paper loss at the bottom edge.

MOSES (1976) [MOSES THE LAWGIVER, 1974 TV] 11953

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We think of Charlton Heston as the Moses Of The Movies, but his peer Burt Lancaster played Moses as well in the CBS Television mini series, MOSES THE LAWGIVER, done in 1974. This was a prestigious effort on the part of CBS. Joseph E. Levine released a two hour theatrical version as MOSES in 1976. Blessed with a competent cast, the movie is no THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, but the story relies on character development and biblical detail to move it along. The mini series version, which one might be able to catch on a cable movie channel, is the better version to watch as the theatrical release is a bit truncated. Also starrring Anthony Quayle, Ingrid Thulin and Irene Papas. Directed by Gianfranco De Bosio. This poster is folded a bit irregularly, so we have graded it as fine plus. Otherwise in very fine shape.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original United Artists One sheet poster for the Delbert Mann film of Terence Rattigan play SEPARATE TABLES (1958.) SEPARATE TABLES is about a group of guests at a seaside hotel in Bournemouth, England which advertises separate dining tables. John Gay’s screenplay of the original Rattigan property is a subtle but persistent attack on the class consciousness so prevalent in England even after the World War II. The film won two Oscars, including one for the magnificent Wendy Hiller. Hers is probably the enduring performance from the film, but the cast is very good overall and includes good performances by Burt Lancaster, Deborah Kerr, Rita Hayworth and David Niven. This was the kind of serious dramatic film that United Artists could be counted on to make. The poster has a censor stamp on it, but is otherwise in very fine to near mint condition.

This is the story of a Kentucky widower in the 1820s bound for Texas with his young son. He is thwarted in his efforts by a corrupt constable, a long-standing family feud, and a beautiful indentured servant. The film is a great period piece showing the speech, habits, attitudes, and clothing in the backwoods of Kentucky in the 1820s. This original insert poster is folded and in fine plus to very fine condition. There is some minor distress to the poster edges in places, but nothing that would prevent framing the poster successfully. The insert is distinguished for this title because of the painting of Lancaster by American artist Thomas Hart Benton. Benton had done work for other films as well, including the John Ford film THE GRAPES OF WRATH.
