OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Warner Brothers Window Card poster (14×22) for Elia Kazan’s film, BABY DOLL (1956) starring Karl Malden, Carroll Baker, Eli Wallach, and Mildred Dunnock. With a screenplay by Tennessee Williams, this film is the steamy tale of two cotton gin rivals in Mississippi in the 1950s and a sensuous 19-year-old virgin who has a penchant for sucking her thumb and sleeping in a crib. The Brothers Warner took a huge gamble on this outrageous and suggestive storyline, which Cardinal Spellman of New York denounced and Time Magazine called “possibly the dirtiest American-made motion picture that has ever been legally exhibited.” The film was both a hit at the box office and with the movie critics. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Baker, Best Supporting Actress for Dunnock, Best Cinematography for Boris Kaufman, and Best Screenplay for Williams. It won the Golden Globe Best Picture award and was nominated for Golden Globes in four other categories. This poster is in very good condition. It has a snipe which was from The Melrose Theater. This snipe is easily removed by a competent poster conservator.

Original Warner Brothers Insert Poster (14×36) for the Bob Fosse biographical drama, STAR 80 (1983) starring Mariel Hemingway, Eric Roberts, Cliff Robertson, and Carroll Baker. Fosse has created a shockingly beautiful docudrama about the dark side of the American dream. Paul (Roberts) meets a pretty but naive high school senior Dorothy (Hemingway) and lands her a spread in Playboy, which ultimately leads to a new acting career. But then Paul begins to be seen as just a hanger on and become increasingly disliked by the men who now direct Dorothy’s career. Roberts gives a stunning performance as the narcissistic small time hustler Paul, and Baker is also superb as Dorothy’s mother. This original one sheet poster is rolled and in very fine to near mint condition.

This is an original Warner Brothers Six Sheet Poster (81×81) for the George Stevens western masterpiece, GIANT (1956) starring Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, James Dean, Carroll Baker, Sal Mineo and Mercedes McCambridge. Based on the novel by Edna Ferber, this sprawling epic of a Texas cattle rancher and his family and associates spans many years, beginning with the newlywed couple and following them into their middle age. Taylor gives one of the strongest performances of her career, and James Dean delivers the final performance of his too short career. The cinematography and production design are consistently beautiful. The film was nominated for 10 Academy Award—including Best Picture, Best Actor for both Hudson and Dean, and Best Supporting Actress for McCambridge. The film won the Best Director Oscar for Stevens. Also a much-loved score by the great Dimitri Tiomkin. This original six sheet poster is linen backed. It has had small chips out of the border area repaired and color touch-up to all the fold lines. Otherwise, the overall condition of the poster is fine.
