Original 20th Century-Fox Roadshow One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Robert Wise musical masterpiece, THE SOUND OF MUSIC (1965) starring Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Eleanor Parker, and Richard Haydn. Julie Andrews is believable and unforgettable as the nun who leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess of the family of a naval officer widower. Great songs and music, interesting characters, superb direction, and an inspired screenplay all combine to make this one of the American Cinema’s best loved and just plain great musicals. And while some people complain that the tone is too sweet, certainly the final act with the introduction of the Nazis adds a new sense of fear and drama. The audience loves the fact that the Von Trapp family is able to outwit history’s ultimate villains. Nominated for 10 Academy Awards including Best Actress for Andrews, the film won five Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director to Wise. Original Polish Poster (25×35 ) for the Anthony Mann epic, THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE (1964) starring Sophia Loren, Stephen Boyd, Alec Guinness, James Mason, Christopher Plummer, Anthony Quayle, Omar Sharif, John Ireland, Mel Ferrer, Eric Porter and Finlay Currie. Producer Samuel Bronston literally re-created ancient Rome in order to present its fall, politically, socially and economically in this Ultra Panavision 70MM production that came in at an estimated budget of $19M in 1960s money. Filmed primarily at the Bronston Studios in Spain, this international production was First Class all the way with magnificent cinematography, a lush orchestral score by Dmitri Tiomkin and Mann’s solid direction. The production team even replicated the Roman Forum down to the smallest detail. The artwork on this Polish poster is quite modern and depicts the armored head of a fallen centurion very much in the style of a contemporary fresco. Art is by Wiktor Gorka. Very Fine Plus.

Sidney Lumet’s 1958 Buena Vista remake of MORNING GLORY (1933) is yet another fable about the cold nature of showbiz. The beautiful and talented Eva Lovelace (Strasberg) is a small town actress who comes to New York to make it big on the stage, charming producers, playwrights, and actors in the process. Eva and Broadway bigwig Lewis Easton (Fonda) fall in love, but temporarily quell the romance for the sake of maintaining a professional relationship. Meanwhile, Eva manages to usurp the aging Rita Vernon’s (Joan Greenwood) starring role in Lewis’ latest production. Think 42ND STREET meets ALL ABOUT EVE. STAGE STRUCK features Jack Weston in a bit part and Christopher Plummer in his big-screen debut. Condition is very fine, never used, folded.

Original Warner Bros. Window Card (14×22) for the Robert Mulligan drama, INSIDE DAISY CLOVER (1965) starring Natalie Wood, Christopher Plummer, Robert Redford, Roddy McDowall, and Ruth Gordon. This is the story of a teenage tomboy (Wood) who achieves screen stardom at age fifteen and becomes a has-been at seventeen. Wood gives a most compelling character portrayal of the talented teenager, especially when she realizes that she is nothing more than a Hollywood commodity. Plummer gives a great performance as head of the mythical Swan Studios. Redford’s portrayal of a homosexual actor in 1930s Hollywood created a sensation. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards, including a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Ruth Gordon. This original window card is in very fine plus condition.

This is a story of a man (Quaid) who can enter and manipulate people’s dreams and is recruited by a government agency to help cure the President of the U.S. of his nightmares about nuclear war. Quaid gives an excellent performance, frequently injecting enjoyable comic relief. Although the effects might be considered primitive by today’s standards, the film treats us to some exceptional dream sequences that worked well for the time. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.
