KEY LARGO (1948) 19441

full.keylargo Ins 19441

Original Warner Brothers Insert Poster (14×36) for the John Huston film-noir masterpiece, KEY LARGO (1948) starring Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson, Lauren Bacall, and Claire Trevor. While mostly remembered, and rather inaccurately, as another in the on-screen romances between Bogart and Bacall, this story of expatriate gangsters led by mob boss Johnny Rocco (Robinson) commandeering a sleepy tropical hotel in the middle of a hurricane turned out to be one of the best movies of the 1940′s. Robinson is certainly one of the best film villains, and his portrayal of Rocco is based on the real life story of gangster Lucky Luciano who had been deported some years before. Claire Trevor won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her unforgettable role as Rocco’s alcoholic moll with a heart of gold. This poster is signed in pen by the incomparable Lauren Bacall. This original insert poster was originally folded and is in very fine condition.

Original RKO Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the Edward Dmytryk film-noir thriller, MURDER, MY SWEET (1944) starring Dick Powell, Claire Trevor, and Ann Shirley. RKO was on the verge of bankruptcy when it signed aging matinee idol Powell to make a series of musicals. Powell only signed under the proviso that he could play a dramatic role first, so he was cast as detective Philip Marlowe in this stylish adaptation of the Raymond Chandler novel. The art of this original three sheet poster is the best on the title with a stunning shot of Trevor in a negligee and bold title graphics. The poster has been restored to correct pinholes in the corners, fold wear, small tears in the borders, and a chip out of the left border. Linen-backed. Fine to very fine condition. Doubtless one of the premier U.S. film noir posters.

full.marjoriemorningstar insert-16410

This is an original Warner Brothers Insert Poster (14×36) for the Irving Rapper romantic drama, MARJORIE MORNINGSTAR (1958) starring Gene Kelly, Natalie Wood, and Claire Trevor. This is the story of college girl Marjorie (Wood) who meets and falls in love with a dramatist (Kelly) while working as a counselor at a summer camp. This begins an on-again-off-again relationship until Marjorie finally gives up. There is tremendous on-screen chemistry between Wood and Kelly, in spite of the large difference in their ages. Wood lobbied heavily for the role in her successful attempt to transition from teen star to leading lady. The film received a lone Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. This original insert poster is folded and in very fine condition with only a few pinholes.

Original Warner Brothers One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the William A. Wellman action adventure, THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY (1954) starring John Wayne, Claire Trevor, Laraine Day, and Robert Stack. This is the granddaddy of all the disaster movies that became so popular in the 1970s and is based on the best-selling novel by Ernest K. Gann. The story is about a commercial airliner that develops engine trouble on a trans-Pacific flight. When the pilot (Stack) looses his nerve, it is up to the washed-up co-pilot (Wayne) to bring the plane in safely. But each character on this flight is so wonderfully developed that you can remember clearly even the minor characters with the smallest parts. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Director for Wellman, and Dimitri Tiomkin won the Oscar for Best Musical Score. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine plus condition with vivid colors, no missing paper, and only minimal touch-up to the fold lines.
