TEXAS LADY (1955) 17116

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Belgian poster (14×22) for the Tim Whelan western, TEXAS LADY (1955) starring Claudette Colbert, Barry Sullivan, Ray Collins, and Gregory Walcott. Prudence Webb (Colbert) inherits a local newspaper in an isolated Texas town. The men who run the town do not exactly welcome a woman’s “interference” with “their” newspaper. Lucky for Prudence, a card shark (Sullivan) she beat in New Orleans comes to her rescue. Some critics complained bitterly about the corny screenplay, but Colbert’s portrayal of a strong and independent woman is unusual for a western of the mid-1950s. This original Belgian poster is in very good condition, with some rather hard edge damage at the upper border area. But the image on the poster is fine>

Original Paramount Pictures Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the Mark Sandrich war drama, SO PROUDLY WE HAIL (1943) starring Claudette Colbert, Paulette Goddard, Vernoica Lake, and George Reeves. This film revolves around a group of nurses returning from the war in the Philippines who recall their experiences in war and love. Although made during the war, this is not a war propaganda film by any means. It is one of the first films to put women in the spotlight as true war heroes. The script was written using the journals and diaries of actual nurses serving in the Pacific theater. This original scene lobby card is in very good plus condition.

CLEOPATRA (1934) M21049

Original Paramount Pictures Lobby Card (11×14) for the Cecil B. DeMille historical epic, CLEOPATRA (1934) starring Claudette Colbert, Warren William, and Henry Wilcoxon. This film has all the DeMille staples of a great epic—unmitigated opulence, cruel barbarity, shocking decadence and a knowing wit that makes it enormously enjoyable. Claudette Colbert, who was more at home in romantic comedies, delivers a stunning performance as the deadly and fascinating queen of Egypt. The outrageous scene aboard her barge was sneaked in right before the Production Code began to be enforced, which would have censored this and many other “immoral” scenes in the film. This original lobby card of Colbert as the wily queen is in very fine condition for its age, with only some minor pinholes mostly in the borders and some very minor surface wear. Very Fine. A beautiful card indeed.
