Original RKO One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Elliott Nugent musical comedy, UP IN ARMS (1944) starring Danny Kaye, Dinah Shore, Dana Andrews, and Constance Dowling. Samuel Goldwyn had been trying to sign Kaye to a movie contract for two years before he finally agreed. Goldwyn put him in a series of Technicolor musicals beginning with this picture. The story revolves around Kaye’s character, a hypochondriac that gets drafted and makes life miserable for his fellow soldiers. Kaye steals every scene he is in, deftly switching into and out of a pastiche of popular song styles, slang, scat, and even an African-American impersonation. The film received two Academy Award nominations for Best Musical Score and Best Original Song (“Now I Know”).

full.statefair-1sh-19268

Original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, STATE FAIR (1945) directed by Walter Lang and starring Jeanne Crain, Dana Andrews, Vivian Blaine, and Dick Haymes. This was the only time that Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote a score directly for film, having already had great Broadway successes with “Oklahoma” and “Carousel.” They both won the Academy Award for Best Song for “It Might As Well Be Spring.” Other favorite songs from the movie include “State Fair” and “It’s a Grand Night for Singing.” The film is a sweet (some may cry “corny”) look at the tradition of the state fair put to music. It had all the ingredients for a happy post-war (released on August 29, 1945) romp through Americana—classic songs, winning performers, a simply story, and a happy ending. This the second version of STATE FAIR, the first being in 1933 with Will Rogers and Janet Gaynor. Both of those films were set at the state fair in Iowa. The film was also remade in 1962 with Pat Boone and Ann-Margret and set in Texas. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed (linen trimmed up to border of poster) and in fine plus condition.
