Original MGM Style A Half Sheet Poster (22×28) for the Vincente Minnelli romantic drama, THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL (1952) starring Lana Turner, Kirk Douglas, Walter Pidgeon, Dick Powell, and Gloria Grahame. The film tells the story of an actress, a director, and a screenwriter who are asked to help revive the career of ruthless Hollywood producer Jonathan Shields (Douglas). All three are reluctant because they have been used and betrayed by Shields in the past. Based on the career of David O. Selznick, this well-written drama was nominated for six Academy Awards and won five Oscars—including Best Supporting Actress to Grahame and Best Screenplay to Charles Schnee. This original half sheet poster with a luminous Lana Turner in the clutches of Kirk Douglas is folded and in very fine condition—with some pinholes in the corners, minor edge wear, light smudging in the borders, and minor tears in the bottom right corner and border.

STAGE STRUCK (1936) 15020

Original First National Pictures Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the Busby Berkeley musical comedy, STAGE STRUCK (1936)—starring Dick Powell, Joan Blondell, and Warren William. Following the pattern of their earlier musical hits, in this film Broadway director George (Powell) has to stage a show starring a wealthy but untalented performer (think Paris Hilton in 1936) named Peggy (Blondell), who is starring only because she is backing the show. Berkeley directed the film while also going through a trial for manslaughter resulting from driving while drunk. Despite the fact that Berkeley was known for his outrageous and surreal production numbers, a tight budget precluded any of these signature extravaganzas. This original scene lobby card is in very fine plus condition.

MURDER, MY SWEET (1944) 19345

Original RKO Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the Edward Dmytryk film-noir thriller, MURDER, MY SWEET (1944) starring Dick Powell, Claire Trevor, and Ann Shirley. RKO was on the verge of bankruptcy when it signed aging matinee idol Powell to make a series of musicals. Powell only signed under the proviso that he could play a dramatic role first, so he was cast as detective Philip Marlowe in this stylish adaptation of the Raymond Chandler novel. The art of this original three sheet poster is the best on the title with a stunning shot of Trevor in a negligee and bold title graphics. The poster has been restored to correct pinholes in the corners, fold wear, small tears in the borders, and a chip out of the left border. Linen-backed. Fine to very fine condition. Doubtless one of the premier U.S. film noir posters.

FOOTLIGHT PARADE (1933) 2631

Cfootlightparade scene card 2631

This is an original Warner Brothers Lobby Card (11×14) for the Lloyd Bacon musical comedy, FOOTLIGHT PARADE (1933) starring James Cagney, Joan Blondell, Ruby Keeler, and Dick Powell. Cagney plays Chester Kent, a producer of “prologues” or short musical stage productions that were presented in movie theaters before the features. Busby Berkeley choreographed all of the elaborate dance numbers, all of which were photographed with only one camera. With a snappy script and an all-star cast, this film is one of the best of the 1930′s musical comedy extravaganzas. This original scene card is for the number “By a Waterfall,” which features “pre-code” scantily clad beauties in some astonishing kaleidoscopic choreography. This scene card is in fine condition with only some minor pinholes and a small missing chip in the upper border. Rare and wonderful.
