Original Sheet Music (9×12) for the song “Pagan Love Song” from the W.S. Van Dyke drama, THE PAGAN (1929) starring Ramon Novarro, Renee Adoree, Donald Crisp, and Dorothy Janis. Novarro plays the pagan son of a white father and a native mother who falls in love with a native girl. The problem is that the girl’s guardian is trying to bring her up as a “proper” Christian. With music by Nacio Herb Brown and lyrics by Arthur Freed, the song is sung in the film by Novarro and Janis. Although the photo shows the image slightly eclipsed, the real sheet music has not been trimmed in any way and is in very fine condition.

The center of the film is the Morgan family headed by Crisp and Allgood. Crisp plays the conservative father who does not agree with his sons on the need for a union. All of this is seen through the eyes of young Hugh Morgan (McDowall in his first major role). The film received 10 Academy Award nominations and won five Oscars–including Best Picture, Best Director to Ford, and Best Supporting Actor to Crisp. This original insert poster is in very good condition, with some distresses, pinholes, and fold separations.
