Original Warner Brothers Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the Michael Curtiz epic war adventure, THE CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE (1936) starring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland. This is the only scene card in the set for this film which features both Flynn and de Havilland. Errol Flynn, flush with the huge success of CAPTAIN BLOOD, re-teams with co-star de Havilland and director Curtiz to create this epic tale, which owes more to the prose of Rudyard Kipling than to the famous poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson. While the final “charge” is one of the most incredible scenes ever filmed, so many horses were injured and had to be destroyed that humane societies nationwide raised such an outcry that standards were established to bar this kind of cruelty to animals in the future. The card does exhibit some minor flaws only visible under close examination– including a small chip our of the top left corner, pinholes in the top border, minor staining in the bottom corners, and some light creases. This lovely linen-finished (not to be confused with linen-backing) scene card features the classic pair in a smoldering embrace and is in fine to very fine condition.

Flynn was surrounded with some of the best character actors of the day. This film was one of the first color productions, and the entire movie is bathed in astounding Technicolor. The lavish sets and the rich score by Erich Korngold also add greatly to the production quality of the film. Many critics still consider this one of the greatest adventure films ever produced, and THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD remains to this day one of the most popular films of all time.
