THE GIRL WHO HAD EVERYTHING (1953) 13602

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original MGM Style B Half Sheet Poster (22×28) for the Richard Thorpe romantic drama, THE GIRL WHO HAD EVERYTHING (1953) starring Elizabeth Taylor, Fernando Lamas, William Powell, and Gig Young. Taylor plays the daughter of a tough trial lawyer (Powell) who falls in love with his gangster client (Lamas). A remake of the film A FREE SOUL (1931) starring Norma Shearer and Clark Gable, this film does not have the seediness of the original but certainly has all the unbridled sensuality of the first movie. Taylor gives a thoroughly convincing portrayal of the willful, headstrong daughter who grows from a spoiled, immature flirt into a strong, sobered woman. Powell had been with MGM since 1934, and this was his final film for the studio. This original half sheet poster is folded and in very good condition. There are no fold separations, but the reverse side has some tape and some border distress. The poster would look very nice paperbacked, but can be framed as is.

There are some small holes in the corner, and a tear of about 1.5 inches in the lower right border. However, the colors are vivid, and the poster would look nice linen backed.

THE MERRY WIDOW (1952) 17825

Original MGM Insert Poster (14×36) for the Curtis Bernhardt musical, THE MERRY WIDOW (1952)– starring Lana Turner, Fernando Lamas, Una Merkel, and Richard Haydn. Bernhardt’s THE MERRY WIDOW is the third take on this story, preceded by the 1934 version starring Maurice Chevalier and the 1925 version starring Mae Murray. In this remake, Crystal Radek (Lana Turner) is the widow of a wealthy native of the fictional country of Marishkovia, which is now broke. So, the Marshkovian king dispatches Count Danilo (Fernando Lamas) to seduce Radek and bring her fortune back to its homeland. Turner’s singing was panned and the film was not very successful, but as an MGM musical from the 50s it is a curious failure among such greats as SINGING IN THE RAIN, GIGI, LILI etc. A good image of Lana Turner, however, on a poster which is in very fine, folded, condition.
