full.vonryansexpress-front of house cards-4968

Original British Set of 8 Front of House Cards (8×10) for the Mark Robson war drama, VON RYAN’S EXPRESS (1965) starring Frank Sinatra, Trevor Howard and James Brolin. Adapted from a popular novel by David Westheimer, VON RYAN’S EXPRESS is a prisoner escape drama set in Italy at the very end of World War II. Sinatra leads a group of men out of prisoner of war camp and onto a hijacked train. Excitement ensues. This was a successful film for Sinatra, who played in his share of war movies, but sat out the actual war. We believe that this film had eight front-of-house cards, which would make this an entire set. Condition is very fine.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original MGM Advance One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Jack Haley Jr. musical documentary, THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT (1974) starring Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly, Judy Garland, and Esther Williams. This holy grail of musical documentaries lets the MGM stars present their favorite moments from the studio’s 50 year history, presenting both the still-famous as well as the once-famous. Even though few of the films included had been restored at the time of release—THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT is still a feast of brilliant colors, gorgeous costumes, and spectacular dance numbers. This original advance one sheet poster is folded and in good condition—with some tape on both the front and reverse sides.

PAL JOEY (1957) 14000

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Columbia Pictures one sheet poster for the George Sidney musical PAL JOEY (1957) starring Rita Hayworth, Frank Sinatra, and Kim Novak. The film is based on the classic Rodgers and Hart musical of the same name and features such ageless songs as BEWITCHED, BOTHERED AND BEWILDERED and MY FUNNY VALENTINE. Sinatra is at the top of his game portraying a San Francisco roue torn between two women — a high society matron and a showgirl. Celluloid life and reel life mirrored one another as Columbia Boss Harry Cohn’s real-life obsession between the two studio glamour girls played out on screen, pitting one against the other. This theater used poster is in very good condition. It is somewhat worn – with some small tears, some pinholes and other distresses. This poster is a good candidate for linen backing. ASSAULT ON A QUEEN (1966) 9818

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Paramount One Sheet Poster for the Jack Donohue crime caper movie ASSAULT ON A QUEEN (1966) starring Frank Sinatra, Virna Lisi, Anthony Franciosa, and Richard Conte. Sinatra stars as an American who helps a German restore a World War II era U-Boat in order to lead an assault on the Ocean Liner Queen Mary. This film was an effort to create a caper adventure along the lines of OCEAN’S 11. The results were not quite that, but still not too boring. Sinatra gets to escape with Virna Lisi to South America so all is not lost. Some soiling on the reverse side which does not affect the front side at all. No fold separations; colors are bright. Very fine condition.

Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Charles Vidor musical biography, THE JOKER IS WILD (1957) starring Frank Sinatra, Jeanne Crain, Eddie Albert, and Mitzi Gaynor. This film is a biography of the famous comedian Joe E. Lewis, who started his career as a talented singer who performs in speakeasies. When the mob tries to kill him, but only succeeds in cutting his vocal chords, he is coaxed into becoming a comedian and becomes even more popular in this new role. Frank Sinatra gives one of the best performances of his career. The film won the Academy Award for Best Original Song “All the Way” which became one of Sinatra’s signature songs. The poster is in very good condition with only the upper left corner missing. Priced accordingly.

full.themanwiththegoldenarm-1sh

Original United Artists One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Otto Preminger drug addiction drama, THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM (1955)—starring Frank Sinatra, Eleanor Parker, and Kim Novak. Sinatra gives one of the best performances of his career as the jittery and manic heroin addict Frankie; indeed, Sinatra was nominated for Best Actor for this role. Elmer Bernstein’s score, which also received an Academy Award nomination, perfectly complements the tensions of Frankie’s spiritual weakness and physical need for heroin. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine condition.

OCEAN’S 11 (1960) 7441

full.oceans11-pressbook-7441

Original Warner Bros. Pressbook (12×14) for the Lewis Milestone crime comedy, OCEAN’S 11 (1960)‚ starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Peter Lawford, Joey Bishop, and Sammy Davis Jr. The plot of this film revolves around eleven friends who know each other from World War II service and plan to rob five of the biggest casinos in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve. This film is an interesting glimpse into the Rat Pack era‚ the era of ultimate coolness with the clubs, the Marilyn Monroe look-a-likes, flashy clothes, and lots (and lots) of money. Of course, there is also the legendary bad treatment of women and African-Americans. This pressbook has several cuts or excisions, there is a tear in the front page, and it is folded. It is therefore graded as good condition only and priced modestly. Still, the charm of the publicity material is preserved and this pressbook is hard to locate.

CAN-CAN (1960) 14076

full.can-can-1sh-14076

Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Walter Lang musical comedy, CAN-CAN (1960)—starring Frank Sinatra, Shirley MacLaine, Maurice Chevalier, and Juliet Prowse. Set in the Montmarte district of Paris in 1896, the police don’t bother to enforce a ban on the risque can-can dance in a popular club owned by cute and nutty Simone (MacLaine). Sinatra, who was at the top of his game at this time, gives some stunning performances of fabulous Cole Porter songs. And Juliet Prowse gives an exuberant performance as a can-can girl. This poster is an average used theater exhibited copy. The poster is folded and in very good condition. The upper left corner is missing a piece in the border area. There are no fold separations, but there is a small hole in the lower left. This poster could be linen-backed successfully. Ask us about restoration.

THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE (1962) 4996

full.themanchuriancandidate-3sh-4996

Original United Artists Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the John Frankenheimer mystery thriller, THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE (1962)—starring Frank Sinatra, Laurence Harvey, Janet Leigh, and Angela Lansbury. Based on a novel by Richard Condon, this excellent thriller tells the story of a former Korean War POW (Harvey) who is brainwashed by the Chinese communists into becoming a political assassin. An eerie coincidence, the film dealing with the assassination of an American presidential candidate was released in the U.S. in the year before the real-life assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The topic of the film was so politically sensitive that it was prohibited in the former “Iron Curtain” countries until after the fall of the Soviet Union. Angela Lansbury, who absolutely captivates and steals every scene she is in, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. This original three sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition. It appears to have never been used and is unassembled.
