THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY (1978) 20543

Original Columbia Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Steve Rash musical biography, THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY (1978)—starring Gary Busey, Don Stroud, Charles Martin Smith, and Conrad Janis. This excellent biography tells the story of Buddy Holly from his early day of “Peggy Sue” to his untimely death at age 22 in 1959. Busey, Smith, and Stroud actually played the music live for the film, and many critics believe that Busey’s portrayal of Holly is the best performance of his career. Indeed, he was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar, the only nomination he has received so far. The film also was nominated for Best Sound and Joe Renzetti won the Oscar for Best Musical Score. This original one sheet poster is folded and in fine plus condition, with only some minor rumpling and a play date stamped in the bottom border area.
BIG WEDNESDAY (1978) 8781

Original Warner Bros. One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the John Milius surfing drama, BIG WEDNESDAY (1978) starring Jan-Michael Vincent, William Katt, and Gary Busey. This rite of passage film is about three young California surfers in the 1960s, whose carefree life is interrupted by the Vietnam War. Real surfers will say this is the only time the surf culture is portrayed accurately in a studio film. Part of the reason for this is because writer/director Milius was a surfer himself, referring to it again in his most celebrated screenplay for APOCALPYSE NOW (1979). (“Charlie don’t surf!” and “Surf or fight”). The film also benefited from the fact that all three major character (Vincent, Katt, and Busey) were also accomplished surfers. This original one sheet poster is folded and in fine condition with only minor fold distresses.
A STAR IS BORN (1976) 6158

This is an original Warner Brothers One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Frank Pierson musical, A STAR IS BORN (1976) starring Barbra Streisand, Kris Kristofferson, and Gary Busey. In this updated version of the story, John Norman Howard (Kristofferson) is a has-been rock star who falls in love with a young and ambitious songtress named Esther Hoffman (Streisand). Though some critics have complained that the film seems to be totally obsessed with Hoffman and her career, there is no doubt that Streisand was at the top of her game when this film was released, and her singing parts are absolutely magical. It has been said that Elvis Presley was briefly considered for the part of Howard, but besides the obvious comparison of the character’s downward spiral to Presley’s waning career, he very much feared being upstaged by Streisand. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, and Streisand and Paul Williams won the Oscar for Best Original Song (“Evergreen”). This original one sheet poster is folded and fine plus condition, with only minor fold separations.
