Original MGM Portrait Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the Roy Del Ruth musical, BROADWAY RHYTHM (1944) starring George Murphy, Ginny Simms, Charles Winninger, and Gloria DeHaven. In this MGM musical Broadway producer Murphy is hot to cast his big Broadway musical with expensive hi-toned performers but finds out that talent is all around him all the time. Another in the great series of movies with the MGM theme “Hey Gang, Let’s Put On A Show.” Not exactly MIckey and Judy, but not far off either. George Murphy would later become a United States Senator from California long before Ronald Reagan would ever become a national political figure. This original portrait lobby card of George Murphy and Ginny Simms is in fine plus to very fine condition.

Original RKO One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Edwin L. Marin musical comedy, SHOW BUSINESS (1944) starring Eddie Cantor, George Murphy, Joan Davis, and Nancy Kelly. This delightful musical comedy is the biography of a burlesque to vaudeville song and dance team over the first 30 years of the 20th century. Though it was not a World War II movie per se, coming at the end of the war, it displayed a warm-hearted Americana for which young American men were fighting and dying. Though no original music was composed for SHOW BUSINESS, the film included some very popular old standards like “Making Whoopee” and “It Had To Be You.” This poster is very fine plus condition.

TOP OF THE TOWN (1937) 15619

full-topofthetown24sh-2

This is an original Universal Pictures Twenty Four Sheet Poster (9ft. x 20ft.) for the Ralph Murphy musical comedy, TOP OF THE TOWN (1937)—starring Doris Nolan, George Murphy, and Ella Logan. The plot centers around the opening of a luxury nightclub atop a 100-story skyscraper and the conflict over what kind of floorshow to present. Bandleader Murphy wants hot tunes, great dancing, and razzle-dazzle. But club owner Nolan wants something artistic and socially significant. The film presents a wild variety of the musical comedy specialty acts from the period. It’s a real hodge-podge and definitely a mixed bag. But whatever faults it might have, the film is never boring. This original twenty four sheet poster is in very fine condition. Colorful, authentic thirties and great decor for a bar or other festive public space.
