A brilliant cast brings to life some of the most memorable characters in Disney history, and the songs and musical score are superb. Terry Gilkyson’s “The Bare Necessities” was nominated for Best Song. The film is inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s story about the boy “Mowgli” who is raised by wolves in the jungles of India. But Mowgli has a mighty enemy in the fierce tiger, Shere Khan, the quintessential Disney villain voiced brilliantly by George Sanders. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original U.S. one sheet poster for the film adaptation of Jules Verne’s FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON (1958). As the space shuttle is retired and private contractors begin eyeing the journey to the moon, we can look back with fondness to a time in which such an undertaking was science-FICTION. Certainly not a sci-fi movie classic, FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON sees Joseph Cotten and George Sanders as two rival and equally cranky scientists who, at the close of the U.S. Civil War, are anxious to get to the moon. Debra Paget and Don Dubbins are a pair of star-crossed lovers. What else do you need? Directed by Byron Haskin. Very fine to near mint condition. Folded.

REBECCA (1940) 19239

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original United Artists One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Alfred Hitchcock gothic thriller, REBECCA (1940) starring Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine, George Sanders, and Judith Anderson. Many critics consider this film to be Hitchcock’s first true masterpiece. The film was produced by David O. Selznick, with whom Hitchcock clashed from the beginning, due to Selznick’s obsessive control over the film. Olivier is perfect as a broken man living in the past, who marries a frightened and weak Fontaine. By the end of the film, she evolves into a mature and strong woman capable of holding her own. Sanders is positively hateful, and Anderson portrays one of the most coldly sadistic figures in cinematic history. Besides great acting and direction, the film has magnificent cinematography and a wonderfully haunting score by Franz Waxman. The film was nominated for eleven Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Olivier, Best Actress for Fontaine, Best Supporting Actress for Judith Anderson, and Best Director for Hitchcock (his first director nomination). It won two Academy Awards—including Best Picture. This original one sheet poster is in fine plus condition with some restoration. Fixed rough and uneven borders. Fixed several small tears and missing chips. Poster presents extraordinarily well.

The Carthaginian conqueror failed to march on Rome when he had their imperial backs to the wall. Based on Robert Sherwood’s play, “The Road to Rome,” this offbeat musical received critical acclaim at the time of its release. It not only effectively lampoons “epics,” but Williams even spoofs her own underwater ballets in the “I Had A Dream” sequence. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very good condition, with only some minor fold separations and a Canadian censor stamp.
