This film tells the dramatic stories of trapeze artists, a clown, and an elephant trainer against a background of circus spectacle. DeMille toured the Midwest for two months with the Ringling Bros. circus—collecting anecdotes, slang, and behind-the-scenes ideas. Furthermore, the director, always demanding of his performers, insisted that everyone truly learn to perform the circus stunts they were supposed to be performing in the film. The popular movie was nominated for five Academy Awards and won two, including Best Picture. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very good plus condition. The film tells the story of an actress, a director, and a screenwriter who are asked to help revive the career of ruthless Hollywood producer Jonathan Shields (Douglas). All three are reluctant because they have been used and betrayed by Shields in the past. Based on the career of David O. Selznick, this well-written drama was nominated for six Academy Awards and won five Oscars—including Best Supporting Actress to Grahame and Best Screenplay to Charles Schnee. This original half sheet poster with a luminous Lana Turner in the clutches of Kirk Douglas is folded and in very fine condition—with some pinholes in the corners, minor edge wear, light smudging in the borders, and minor tears in the bottom right corner and border.

DeMille epic of Circus Life, THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH (1952) starring Charlton Heston, Betty Hutton, Cornel Wilde, James Stewart, Gloria Grahame, Dorothy Lamour and Henry Wilcoxon. One of DeMille’s most popular films, the movie was honored with the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1953. Colorful and lively, with great heaping dollops of melodrama and in-the-arena excitement, THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH was filmed up close and personal at Ringling Brothers summer headquaters in Florida. Other pictures have tried to capture the glamor of the circus, but somehow are not remembered with the affection that this magnificent, rowdy and sentimental movie inspires. DeMille was nominated by the Academy of Motion PIcture Arts and Sciences for Best Director, and was awarded the Golden Globe. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very good condition, with only pinholes in the corners and minor edge wear.

Original RKO Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the Frank Capra dramatic masterpiece, IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE (1946) starring James Stewart, Donna Reed, Gloria Grahame and Lionel Barrymore. This film has enduring popularity because Stewart’s character is the kind of every man we can all identify with when he confronts the “richest and meanest man in town,” demonically portrayed by Barrymore. The film received five Academy Award nominations—including Best Picture, Best Director for Capra, and Best Actor for Stewart. In this lobby card, we see Stewart confronting the despot Barrymore in a key scene. There are some small holes and spots in the image area, some surface paper loss on the left border, and faint foxing and scuffing. This original scene lobby card is overall in very good condition.
