Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner, Tony Perkins, and Fred Astaire starred in this film about the survivors of a nuclear war who face extinction because of radioactive fallout. A melancholic love story about a U.S. Naval submarine captain and an Australian woman who are thrown together in a post apocalyptic world, the film was one of the last important films of the decade of the 1950s. Based on a novel by Nevil Shute, the movie was one of the first popular examinations of the meaning of nuclear conflict. Watching the film today one is surprised by its still potent message, “There is still, time, brother.” But is there? The poster is a folded one sheet in fine plus condition with some minor distresses. Presents well. This poster is printed with blank and hot pink dayglo on white paper.

CAPE FEAR (1962) 10167

capefear-3sh

Original Universal Pictures Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the J. Lee Thompson crime thriller, CAPE FEAR (1962)—starring Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum, and Polly Bergen. Enduringly suspenseful, dark, edgy, and profound– in this 1962 thriller, ex-con Max Cady (Mitchum) terrorizes the family of Georgia prosecutor Max Bowden (Peck), whom Cady blames for his incarceration. Mitchum’s Cady is intelligent, patient, meticulous, and brutal– a terrifyingly realistic villain who drives the otherwise upstanding Bowden to desperate, erroneous means to save his wife and child. CAPE FEAR illuminates the ethical boundaries of a man protecting his family, and the prosaic violence and constant threat of sexual assault make the film incredibly adult. Although director Lee J. Thompson was careful to never use the word “rape” in the film or to depict any sexual violence, the mere intimation made censors wary and thus the film was cut in some countries. This original three sheet poster is folded and in fine plus condition.

THE OMEN (1976) 12327

full.theomen-styleF-insert

Original 20th Century-Fox Style F Insert Poster (14×36) for the Richard Donner horror classic, THE OMEN (1976) starring Gregory Peck, Lee Remick, David Warner, and Harvey Stephens. Certainly one of the best horror movies of all time, this film tells the story of an American ambassador (Peck) who discovers that his son is the literal Anti-Christ. Remick is perfect for the part of the mother who slowly comes to realize that something is wrong with her son. Gregory Peck easily portrays the noble and principled father. One of the best aspects of the film is the incredible musical score of Jerry Goldsmith, for which he won the Academy Award. It is wonderfully gloomy, disturbing, chilling music interlaced with choirs portending the end of the world. This original style F insert poster is folded and in very good condition, with some minor fold distresses and flaws.

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (1962) 6555

full.tokillamockingbird-3sh-6555

Original Universal Pictures Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the Robert Mulligan dramatic masterpiece, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (1962) starring Gregory Peck, Brock Peters, Mary Badham, Phillip Alford, and Robert Duvall. Based on Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel, this is the story of Atticus Finch, a lawyer in a Depression-era Alabama town, who defends a black man against an undeserved rape charge and his kids against prejudice. The story is told through the eyes of a feisty six-year-old tomboy named “Scout.” Although certainly not the first film to explore the experiences of children and their own personal growth, the film stands out because of the sheer honesty and natural performances of the child actors portraying these rich characters. The American Film Institute recently named the character of Atticus Finch the number one cinema hero of all time. Indeed, Gregory Peck won the Oscar for Best Actor and always said that Finch was the most favorite role of his career. In many ways Peck synthesized characteristics of bravery, honesty, and humility that he had brought to other films like THE BIG COUNTRY and THE YEARLING. The film was nominated for seven other Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Horton Foote won the Oscar for Best Screenplay for his outstanding adaptation of the Harper Lee novel. This original three sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine condition. MovieArt also has the title available in six sheet format.

GENTLEMAN’S AGREEMENT (1947) 9417H

full.gentlemansagreement-sc8-9417h

Original 20th Century-Fox Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the Elia Kazan anti-Semitism drama, GENTLEMAN’S AGREEMENT (1947) starring Gregory Peck, Dorothy McGuire, John Garfield, and Celeste Holm. In this excellent screenplay by Moss Hart, a reporter (Peck) pretends to be Jewish in order to cover a story about anti-Semitism, and in the process he personally discovers the true depths of bigotry and hatred. Very few films confront bigotry as intelligently as this one, because it confronts the unspoken, insensitive attitudes of the many rather than the violent and outrageous acts of a few. A “gentleman’s agreement” is made without writing or even speech and refers to the many bigots who unthinkingly assume their prejudices are universally accepted. The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards and won three Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director to Kazan, and Best Supporting Actress to Holm. We have graded this card in fine plus condition for pinholes; otherwise, very fine.
