Adapted from Stuart Lake’s book “Wyatt Earp, Frontier Marshal,” the film tells the story of Wyatt Earp and his brothers who decide in 1882 to settle in Tombstone after their cattle are rustled and their younger brother James is killed. Earp who had already served as a marshal gladly accepts the position in Tombstone along with brothers as deputies. Marshal Earp has several run-ins with Ike Clanton and his sons. When Earp is forced to kill Billy Clanton, it leads to the famous shoot-out at the OK Corral. Some critics have dubbed this film the finest western ever made, and certainly the film represents a high point in the careers of all involved. Ford’s excellent direction creates a perfect blend of drama, action, romance, and occasional comic relief. This original stone lithograph six sheet poster is linen-backed and in near mint condition.

Stunning black and white cinematography by Gregg Toland enhances the overwhelming feeling of desperation and emptiness that suffuses the entire film. When the Joads decide to abandon the dustbowl of Oklahoma and go to California to get jobs they’ve only heard about, they encounter every hardship imaginable along the way. And when they do finally arrive, they are forced to live in shantytowns and work for wages that barely prevent starvation. With incredibly powerful performances from the entire cast, this film remains a shockingly realistic yet poetic portrayal of the sufferings so many families experienced in the Great Depression. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. John Ford won the Oscar for Best Director and Jane Darwell deservedly won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her unforgettable performance as Ma Joad. Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Sergio Leone western masterpiece, ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST (1968) starring Henry Fonda, Claudi Cardinale, Jason Robards, and Charles Bronson. This film tells the story of a young woman, Jill McBain (Cardinale), who moves from New Orleans to frontier Utah—only to find her husband and family have been slaughtered. A man names Cheyenne (Robards), a suspect in the murder, befriends her and offers to hunt down the real killer. Director Leone redefined the western with lots more feelings and emotions. He transformed the romantic notion of the West as an exiting and generally nice place to be with an honest portrayal of the sheer harshness of western life. This original one sheet poster is folded and in fine condition—with some fold distress and small creases, a few minor dings, and a small fold separation at the fold intersection.

Robinson. This extremely well crafted and engaging film was made during the period in Hollywood when “anthology” films were all he rage by using large casts to tell several interconnected stories. The connection in all the stories is a tuxedo tailcoat that passes through the hands of several diverse people in New York City. This original one sheet is from the famous Royal Theater Collection, which was discovered in Canada in 1987. This collection of posters and lobby cards was very well known for comprising a large collection of material in excellent condition.

Original United Artists One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Melville Shavelson family comedy, YOURS, MINE AND OURS (1968) starring Lucille Ball, Henry Fonda, and Van Johnson. Lucille Ball bought the rights to Frank Beardsley’s book, “Who Gets the Drumstick” about a widower with ten children who marries a widow with eight children. Co-produced by Ball’s Desilu Productions, the film became a box office smash hit and grossed over $17 million. With artwork by Frank Frazetta, this original one sheet poster is folded and in good condition—with some minor holes, stains, and tears and is priced accordingly.

FORT APACHE stands apart from many westerns of the late 40s and 50s as a far more thoughtful and fair interpretation of US/Indian relations in the mid-19th century, and is considered one of Ford’s masterpieces. Wayne plays Capt. York, a veteran Civil War commander assigned to take charge of a remote outpost in Arizona. He arrives to find acting commander Lt. Col. Thursday (Henry Fonda) undermining the local Apache leaders and turning a blind eye to the government liaison’s corruption. As York and Thursday butt heads over whether to treat the natives with respect or force them to submit, the Apache leader Cochise (Miguel Inclan) organizes an uprising that slaughters most of the cavalrymen a la Little Bighorn. One of 24 John Ford films starring John Wayne, FORT APACHE also features Ward Bond, John Agar, and a 19-year old Shirley Temple.

Original Columbia Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Otto Preminger dramatic masterpiece, ADVISE & CONSENT (1962) starring Henry Fonda, Charles Laughton, Don Murray, and Walter Pidgeon. This one sheet is a rare style with alternate art by the great American illustrator Saul Bass. ADVISE AND CONSENT is one of the more entertaining political film of the sixties and is about a Senate investigation into a President’s newly nominated Secretary of State. During the hearings, the nominee reveals a secret from the past, which may not only ruin the candidate but also bring into question the President’s judgment. Sound familiar? The characters are beautifully drawn, the performances are all equally brilliant, and Sam Leavitt’s luminous black and white cinematography creates just the right mood. ADVISE AND CONSENT was one of the very successful films by director Otto Preminger. Preminger’s notion of edgy adult drama enjoyed a huge commercial success in the decades of the 1950s and 1960s. This one sheet poster created by famed artist Saul Bass is linen-backed and in very fine condition. With art similar to the three sheet, this style one sheet poster is RARE. Some slight border repair.
