THE ENFORCER (1951) 17062

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Belgian Poster (13×21) for the Bretaigne Windust film noir, THE ENFORCER (1951) starring Humphrey Bogart, Zero Mostel, Ted de Corsia, and Everett Sloane. The film is a perfect example of typical post-1950 film noir, which tended to be told from the point of view of the police rather than the criminal. After the first several days of filming, director Windust fell seriously ill and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Bogart asked Raoul Walsh to direct the film until Windust could return, but he was never able to return. Walsh’s directing talent raised this B film to an A status. This original Belgian poster is in fine plus condition.

KEY LARGO (1948) 19441

full.keylargo Ins 19441

Original Warner Brothers Insert Poster (14×36) for the John Huston film-noir masterpiece, KEY LARGO (1948) starring Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson, Lauren Bacall, and Claire Trevor. While mostly remembered, and rather inaccurately, as another in the on-screen romances between Bogart and Bacall, this story of expatriate gangsters led by mob boss Johnny Rocco (Robinson) commandeering a sleepy tropical hotel in the middle of a hurricane turned out to be one of the best movies of the 1940′s. Robinson is certainly one of the best film villains, and his portrayal of Rocco is based on the real life story of gangster Lucky Luciano who had been deported some years before. Claire Trevor won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her unforgettable role as Rocco’s alcoholic moll with a heart of gold. This poster is signed in pen by the incomparable Lauren Bacall. This original insert poster was originally folded and is in very fine condition.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Columbia Pictures Style B One Sheet poster for the John Cromwell film noir thriller, DEAD RECKONING (1947) starring Humphrey Bogart, Lizabeth Scott, Morris Carnovsky, and William Prince. “Rip” Murdock (Bogart) finds himself mired in a heap of trouble when he tries to track down an old army buddy. This movie has all of the film noir ingredients: lots of shadows and sharp contrasts, flashback narrative, a femme fatale (Scott), gambling, seedy clubs, suspicion, and mounting paranoia. The film has a wonderful surprise ending and is filled throughout with sharp, witty dialogue. This original style B one sheet is one of the grandest posters in all of noir. This very fine copy
is expertly linen backed and ready to frame.

DARK PASSAGE (1947) 12750

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Warner Brothers One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Delmar Daves film noir DARK PASSAGE (1947) starring Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Agnes Moorehead and Bruce Bennett. One of four films costarring the legendary couple, DARK PASSAGE is also a superb example of a classic late 1940s film noir — chock full of murder, foggy San Francisco atmosphere, revenge, jealousy and a police manhunt. Bogart portrays an escaped San Quentin convict returning to the City by the Bay in search of the murderer responsible for sending him to the “big house.” With the help of a very young and lovely Lauren Bacall, the mystery is solved thanks to a complicated plot involving plastic surgery and identity change. In the end, the lovers reunite on a beach in Peru! Any original paper from the Bogart/Bacall collaborations is considered a top-flight piece of movie memorabilia. The poster has a small amount of intersection fold distress with very minimal separation but is in very fine condition. There are some small pinholes but no missing image.

THE AFRICAN QUEEN (1951) 14863

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original United Artists Title Lobby Card for the John Huston romance-adventure classic, THE AFRICAN QUEEN (1951), with truly brilliant performances by Katherine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. This is the story of grumpy, gin-swilling roustabout Charles Allnut (Bogart), who is running a little tramp steamer with supplies to small East African villages at the onset of World War I. When German troops invade and destroy Hepburn’s missionary village, Allnut offers to take her on the Queen back to civilization, but not before carrying out a rather daring plan to blow up a German warship. Based on novel by C.S. Forester, the outstanding adaptation by James Agee and Huston was packed with unforgettable exchanges by Hepburn and Bogart and infused throughout by Huston with hilarious tongue-and cheek satire. One of the most popular movies of 1951, it was nominated for Best Director for Huston, Best Screenplay for Agee and Huston, Best Actress for Hepburn, and Best Actor for Humphrey Bogart (which he won). This original title card is in very fine condition. MovieArt will sell no reproductions.

Bogart plays a man convicted of murdering his wife who escapes from prison in order to prove his innocence. The film is certainly one of Bogart’s best performances, and his chemistry with Becall is the softest, tenderest, and most romantic of their films together. This original French poster is linen-backed and in very fine condition.

Original Warner Brothers 1956 Re-Release Half Sheet Poster (22×28) for the Raoul Walsh film-noir thriller, HIGH SIERRA (1941) starring Ida Lupino and Humphrey Bogart. One of Bogart’s best gangster roles, he played many sensitive scenes with surprising depth of character. This was the last movie in which Bogart did not receive top billing. A thoughtful script, artful direction, and masterful performances make this one of the best film-noir thrillers ever. Original release posters for this film are very pricey and almost impossible to find. Good condition only. Some smudging and minor tears. Rumpled. This poster is dirty with some issues that can be easily addressed in restoration — and worth restoring!

full-thebigsleep-sc

This is an original Warner Brothers Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the 1946 Howard Hawks film-noir masterpiece, THE BIG SLEEP, starring Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall and Dorothy Malone. One of the best Raymond Chandler novels brought to the big screen, it is a story of private-eye Philip Marlowe (Bogart) who is hired to keep track of General Sternwood’s youngest daughter, but in the process he falls in love with her older sister Vivian (Bacall). The delightful and witty banter between the two stars is one of the high points of this film. Though first performing opposite each other in TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT (1944), this film cemented the Bogart/Bacall on-screen and off-screen love affair. This original scene lobby card with a wonderful image of the two screen icons is in fine to very fine condition with only minor surface and edge wear in the white borders.
