Original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet poster for the Julien Duvivier romantic comedy, TALES OF MANHATTAN (1942) starring Charles Boyer, Rita Hayworth, Ginger Rogers, Henry Fonda, Charles Laughton, and Edward G. Robinson. This extremely well crafted and engaging film was made during the period in Hollywood when “anthology” films were all he rage by using large casts to tell several interconnected stories. The connection in all the stories is a tuxedo tailcoat that passes through the hands of several diverse people in New York City. This original one sheet is from the famous Royal Theater Collection, which was discovered in Canada in 1987. This collection of posters and lobby cards was very well known for comprising a large collection of material in excellent condition.

Original RKO One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Edward Dmytryk war drama, BEHIND THE RISING SUN (1943) starring Margo, Tom Neal, J. Carrol Naish, and Robert Ryan. American-educated Taro (Neal) returns to Japan just as the war drums were starting to beat louder and louder. He is drafted, and his horrific service in China hardens him to the atrocities committed by the Japanese army. For a war propaganda movie, it is more even handed than most propaganda films in its portrayal of the Japanese people and the upheaval that the war created in Japanese society. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very good condition– with some fold separations reinforced with archival tissue and a 2″ chip missing from the right border area.

Original RKO Advance One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Victor Fleming historical biography, JOAN OF ARC (1948)—starring Ingrid Bergman, Francis L. Sullivan, J. Carrol Naish, and Jose Ferrer. This fascinating war drama takes place in the 15th century during the Hundred Years War between France and England. Joan of Arc is a maid who leads her country in a time of war. But her religious visions are denounced and she is put on trial, condemned as a witch, and burned at the stake. Bergman was totally immersed in her role and absolutely radiates “purity.” Unfortunately, just as the film went into general release, the scandal broke about Bergman’s affair with Roberto Rosellini and the resulting pregnancy. This unwanted publicity caused the film to tank at the box office, but it did receive much critical acclaim. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including a Best Actress nomination for Bergman. The film won the Oscars for Best Cinematography and Best Costume Design. This original advance one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition, with only two minor fold separations.
