Original Warner Bros. Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the Robert Altman and George W. George documentary, THE JAMES DEAN STORY (1957) narrated by Martin Gabel. Made shortly after his untimely death, the film makes use of still photographs with narration and interviews, including Dean’s aunt and uncle who raised him after his mother died when the boy was nine years old. Here his “rebel” side is seen more as an expression of loneliness and search for acceptance. The Warner’s produced documentary was early to lionize Dean, and the project was put in the hands of the young Robert Altman. This beautiful scene card of Dean with his nephew exemplifies what we mean. The photographer is Roy Schatt. Condition is very fine.
