This Belgian original poster is for the William Wyler film THE CHILDREN’S HOUR starring Audrey Hepburn, Shirley MacLaine and James Garner. The original source material was a play by the great Lillian Hellman. It had been made into a film in the 1936 as THESE THREE but the homosexual subject matter had been too hot for the censors at that time, and so the sexual triangle had been heterosexual. But Wyler, who had directed the 1936 film, wanted to film the play as it had been intended, and the less restricted atmosphere of the early sixties made that possible. Still the film is somewhat restrained by today’s standards. Miriam Hopkins who had played one of the women in the 1936 film appeared again in 1962 in the role of another character. The poster is unfolded and is in very fine condition. There is a small tear at the top border which has been repaired with archival tissue. The name of the Belgian cinema, Acropole, is printed in the playdate area.

Original Polish Poster (23×32) for the Norman Jewison romantic comedy, THE THRILL OF IT ALL (1963) starring Doris Day, James Garner, and Arlene Francis. This great screwball family comedy has a clever and witty screenplay by Carl Reiner and Larry Gelbart about a wife who gets bored with her home life and becomes a TV commercial superstar for “Happy Soap.” Her mildly chauvinistic pediatrician husband (Garner) hates her new career because it takes time away from him and the kids. This original Polish poster is in very good condition, with some foxing which could be corrected with restoration.

Original MGM Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the John Frankenheimer racecar drama, GRAND PRIX (1966) starring James Garner, Eva Marie Saint, and Yves Montand. This film has a soap opera plot pasted on some really great racing scenes with exceptional cinematography and a great musical score. The real stars of the film are the beautiful Formula 1 “cigar” cars of the 60s. The film also chronicles how the racing world was changing from the gentlemen’s league of the 50s to the overtly commercial and brutally competitive environment that F1 racing was to become. This original three sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine plus condition, with only a minor water stain in the bottom border area.

Original Warner Brothers Insert Poster (14×36) for Joshua Logan’s romantic drama SAYONARA (1957) starring Marlon Brando, Patricia Owens, Red Buttons, Miyoshi Umeki, Ricardo Montalban, Miiko Taka, Martha Scott and James Garner. This adaptation of James Michener’s novel of service men in post-WWII Japan was a tremendous hit both critically and commercially winning Academy Awards for Supporting Actors Red Buttons and Miyoshi Umeki. In many ways, this bittersweet tale of love between American military men and Japanese women served as a cathartic sort of healing process after the horrors of the war in the Pacific. Original three sheet poster for THE GREAT ESCAPE, John Sturges timeless film about tireless and determined Allied prisoners of war who plan an elaborate escape from a Nazi prisoner of war camp. An all star cast was assembled including James Garner, Richard Attenborough, James Donald, Charles Bronson and Donald Pleasance. But it was Steve McQueen who, in this film, permanently cemented super-star status and became the first real motorcyling icon since Brando had intimidated rural California folk in THE WILD ONE. McQueen’s cross-country motorcycling was the exciting climax of Sturges lively and suspenseful tale of Allied soldiers who could be kept pinned down or penned up.
