Original RKO One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Don Hartman holiday-themed romantic comedy, HOLIDAY AFFAIR (1949)—starring Robert Mitchum, Janet Leigh, and Wendell Corey. Released on Christmas Eve in 1949, this bright and engaging comedy has single-mom Leigh being wooed by two men over the Christmas holidays—the warm-hearted dreamer Mitchum and seriously dull Corey. Both 20-year-old Leigh and her young 8-year-old son Gordon Gebbert are innocent and charming. Robert Mitchum departed from his usual machismo in to make this seasonal romantic comedy. The film was such a flop that RKO backed out of it’s contract with director Don Hartman. However, HOLIDAY AFFAIR has become a popular Christmas movie over the years thanks to regular TV broadcasts during the holiday season. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.

PSYCHO (1960) 16345

Original Paramount Pictures 1965 Re-Release One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Alfred Hitchcock horror-thriller masterpiece, PSYCHO (1960)—starring Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, and John Gavin. Considered by many critics to be the best horror movie of all time, this film was superlative in every way. Starting with one of the best screenplays by Joseph Stefano based on the novel by Robert Bloch– the acting is perfect, the cinematography of John L. Russell is beautiful, and the soundtrack by Bernard Herrmann is exceptional. However, the outstanding direction by Hitchcock is the crowning touch of this great film. The handling of every nuance—gestures, glances, and sudden changes in lighting—is masterful. The acting by Janet Leigh has often been praised, but the performance by Anthony Perkins with his facial tics and half-swallowed words is subtle, cool, unsettling, and just plain creepy. Prior to PSYCHO, horror movies were monsters, zombies, werewolves, and vampires. This film was the first true “psychological thriller.” Though we have become jaded with legions of realistic gore since this movie was released, seeing a nude woman murdered in the shower was something no one had experienced yet in 1960. The 1965 re-release poster incorporates some of the design of the original one sheet and may in fact be rarer than the original. Folded. Very fine condition.

THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE (1962) 4996

full.themanchuriancandidate-3sh-4996

Original United Artists Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the John Frankenheimer mystery thriller, THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE (1962)—starring Frank Sinatra, Laurence Harvey, Janet Leigh, and Angela Lansbury. Based on a novel by Richard Condon, this excellent thriller tells the story of a former Korean War POW (Harvey) who is brainwashed by the Chinese communists into becoming a political assassin. An eerie coincidence, the film dealing with the assassination of an American presidential candidate was released in the U.S. in the year before the real-life assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The topic of the film was so politically sensitive that it was prohibited in the former “Iron Curtain” countries until after the fall of the Soviet Union. Angela Lansbury, who absolutely captivates and steals every scene she is in, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. This original three sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition. It appears to have never been used and is unassembled.
