Frank Sinatra gives one of the best performances of his career. The film won the Academy Award for Best Original Song “All the Way” which became one of Sinatra’s signature songs. PEOPLE WILL TALK (1951) 16410

Joseph L. Mankiewicz directed this brilliant little film the year after he won two Oscars for the immortal ALL ABOUT EVE. Cary Grant plays Dr. Noah Praetorius, a doctor who believes that a healthy and balanced mind can cure a person’s ills as well or better than handfuls of pills. He believes in treating his patients as well as their diseases. This gets him into some considerable trouble with his colleagues at the clinic. Add a bit of love interest in the person of the lovely Jeanne Crain and you have this sparkling witty comedy. The movie was based on a German play by Curt Goetz, “Dr. Praetorius.” And a sophisticated film it is, too, with one of Grant’s best and really least appreciated performances. Thanks be to God for Joe Mankiewicz! This insert poster is in very fine condition.
STATE FAIR (1945) 19268

Original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, STATE FAIR (1945) directed by Walter Lang and starring Jeanne Crain, Dana Andrews, Vivian Blaine, and Dick Haymes. This was the only time that Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote a score directly for film, having already had great Broadway successes with “Oklahoma” and “Carousel.” They both won the Academy Award for Best Song for “It Might As Well Be Spring.” Other favorite songs from the movie include “State Fair” and “It’s a Grand Night for Singing.” The film is a sweet (some may cry “corny”) look at the tradition of the state fair put to music. It had all the ingredients for a happy post-war (released on August 29, 1945) romp through Americana—classic songs, winning performers, a simply story, and a happy ending. This the second version of STATE FAIR, the first being in 1933 with Will Rogers and Janet Gaynor. Both of those films were set at the state fair in Iowa. The film was also remade in 1962 with Pat Boone and Ann-Margret and set in Texas. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed (linen trimmed up to border of poster) and in fine plus condition.

This wonderful film with witty dialogue and wonderful comic situations was nominated for Best Picture, and Joseph Mankiewicz won the Academy Award for Best Director and Best Screenplay. This original title card is in very fine condition.

Original 20th Century Fox Six Sheet Poster (81×81) for the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, STATE FAIR (1945) directed by Walter Lang and starring Jeanne Crain, Dana Andrews, Vivian Blaine, and Dick Haymes. This version was a musical remake of the original 1934 Will Rogers non-musical version; the film would be made one more time – in 1961 with Pat Boone and Ann-Margret. This original stone lithograph six sheet poster is linen-backed and in very good condition. A beautiful example of the Fox stone litho artisan’s talent.
