While many considered this film to be a charming and uplifting story about an ambitious young woman who is a welder by day and an exotic dancer at night, but who really aspires to be a serious dancer in a recognized company. Other critics have complained that the film is nothing more than a string of well crafted and slightly risque videos strung together with the thinnest strand of plot. The two major songs of the film, “Maniac” and “What a Feeling” were both nominated for Best Original Song—with “What a Feeling” capturing the Oscar.
