This is a musical portrait of James M. Cohan—who wrote, produced, directed, and starred in his own musical shows for which he composed many memorable songs. Known as “the man who owned Broadway” in the decade before World War I, Cohan is considered to be father of American musical comedy. Cagney won the Oscar for Best Actor, and the film also won Oscars for Best Music and Best Sound Recording. It was also nominated in five other categories—including Best Original Story, Best Director, and Best Picture. This original six sheet poster is folded and in fine condition—with only some minor pinholes, a light stain on the right side, and small chips missing at the crossfold and border area.

An obvious contribution to the wartime morale effort, the film benefited from the expert directorial touch of the great Michael Curtis and some senational songs by Irving Berlin. A showcase for men in the armed forces, THIS IS THE ARMY is a prime piece of World War II era nostalgia. In very good condition with some fold separation. Should be linen backed. Original RKO Insert Poster (14×36) for the Edward H. Griffith musical comedy, THE SKY’S THE LIMIT (1943)—starring Fred Astaire, Joan Leslie, Robert Benchley, and Robert Ryan. This is one on Fred Astaire’s least know films but contains one of his best solos ever. In this World War II drama, Astaire plays a decorated Air Force pilot, home on leave and expected to act the part of a hero on an inspirational tour. When he goes AWOL in New York, he meets wide-eyed photographer Leslie, and the romance begins. The film received two Academy Award nominations for Best Original Score, and “My Shining Hour” was nominated for Best Original Song. This original insert poster has an excellent dance image of Astaire and Leslie plus a close-up portrait of the two. Folded with some minor distresses including an easily removed tape stain on the lower center-left. Minor edge-wear. This poster is a splendid candidate for paper-backing. The image on the insert is far superior to the one sheet for this title.

This unusual Republic western has two women as central characters. Kate (Totter) is married to the leader of a notorious gang of raiders during the Civil War. But the arrival of an “eastern girl” Sally (Leslie) sets up an eventual showdown between the two women. This original Danish poster is linen-backed and in fine plus condition.
