Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Roman Polanski film-noir classic, CHINATOWN (1974) starring Jack Nicholson, Faye Dunaway, and John Huston. Private Detective Jake Gittes (Nicholson) takes a seemingly simple case of a philandering husband that ultimately envelops him in a complex web of murder, incest, and municipal corruption on a grand scale. Truly deserving of its place as one of the greatest films of all time—everything about the film – acting, cinematography, script, atmosphere, and music—are superb. The film received 11 Academy Award nominations—including Best Picture, Best Director for Polanski, Best Actor for Nicholson, and Best Actress for Dunaway. Robert Towne won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. With beautiful artwork by Jim Pearsall, this original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine plus condition.

Original Columbia Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Otto Preminger war drama, THE CARDINAL (1964) starring Tom Tryon, Carol Lynley, Dorothy Gish, and John Huston. Preminger directed this film about the life of a priest who rises in the the Roman Catholic Church hierarchy, chronicling his struggles along the way– first against Nazism and later against racial bigotry in the American South. The chemistry between Tom Tryon and the sometimes tyrannical Preminger was not good, and Tryon remembers the filming of THE CARDINAL as one of the most unhappy experiences of his acting life. THE CARDINAL is one of several “epic” films that Preminger made in the sixties, beginning with EXODUS, the most successful, and continuing through to the Pearl Harbor film IN HARM’S WAY. The making of these films are covered expertly in Foster Hirsch’s book OTTO PREMINGER, which we highly recommend. At the time these films were made Preminger was at the height of his fame and power in Hollywood. THE CARDINAL is an even-handed look at the church. Certainly this film would not be likely today. The one sheet has art at least partially designed by Saul Bass. Folded, theater-used, but in very fine condition. There is an alternate style with only the Bass art and no photography.

THE VISITOR (STRIDULUM) (1979) 9380

Original American International Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Giulio Paradisi sci-fi horror classic, THE VISITOR (1979) starring Mel Ferrer, Glenn Ford, Lance Henriksen, and John Huston. Best summarized as the story of a young girl with psychic/telekinetic powers who is sought by the forces of both good an evil, THE VISITOR (released in Italy as STRIDULUM) was not well-received by critics or the general public. Not only was the plot derivative of many blockbusters of the time (THE EXORCIST, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND), but the poster itself irritated moviegoers when the gigantic alien Cyclops featured on the one-sheet made no appearance whatsoever in the film. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very good condition. Marker on the reverse side of the poster is very lightly visible from the front, and one extra fold is lightly evident on the poster.
