Original Set of 8 British Front of House Cards (8×10) for the Marlon Brando western drama, ONE-EYED JACKS (1961) starring Brando, Karl Malden, Katy Jurado, Ben Johnson, and Slim Pickens. A superb western, Brando and Malden give outstanding performances, as do the cast of supporting actors and actresses. This film was Brando’s only directorial credit, after Stanley Kubrick quit (or was fired from) the project. Kubrick promptly replaced Anthony Mann as the director of SPARTACUS (1960). This film began shooting in late 1958 and went months over schedule and millions over budget, being shot in the expensive VistaVision process. Brando reportedly shot hundreds of thousands of feet of film as he sought inspiration for both himself and his actors. Cinematographer Charles Lang received the film’s only Academy Award nomination for Best Color Cinematography. This set of original British front of house cards range from fine plus to very fine condition.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for Silvio Narizzano’s offbeat western, BLUE (1968) starring Terence Stamp, Joanna Pettet, Karl Malden, Sally Kirkland an Ricardo Montalban. Very much a product of its time, BLUE is distinctively an adult, introspective western film featuring then red-hot actor Terence Stamp (he’d recently worked with directors as diverse as John Schlesinger, Pasolini, Joseph Losey and Ken Loach), as a Mexican-American bandido trying to go clean north of the border with the help of a beautiful woman. The tragic ending is not unusual for films of that particular era. This one sheet is folded and in very fine condition.

Original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Franklin J. Schaffner war biography, PATTON (1970) starring George C. Scott, Karl Malden, Stephen Young, and Michael Strong. This film is certainly one of the best pictures ever made about World War II—the war being the high point and culmination of the life work of the controversial and outspoken General Patton. Scott delivers a textured and nuanced portrayal of Patton, and he will always be remembered for this outstanding performance. The film was nominated for ten Academy Awards and won seven Oscars—including Best Picture, Best Actor to Scott, and Best Director to Schaffner. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Warner Brothers Window Card poster (14×22) for Elia Kazan’s film, BABY DOLL (1956) starring Karl Malden, Carroll Baker, Eli Wallach, and Mildred Dunnock. With a screenplay by Tennessee Williams, this film is the steamy tale of two cotton gin rivals in Mississippi in the 1950s and a sensuous 19-year-old virgin who has a penchant for sucking her thumb and sleeping in a crib. The Brothers Warner took a huge gamble on this outrageous and suggestive storyline, which Cardinal Spellman of New York denounced and Time Magazine called “possibly the dirtiest American-made motion picture that has ever been legally exhibited.” The film was both a hit at the box office and with the movie critics. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Baker, Best Supporting Actress for Dunnock, Best Cinematography for Boris Kaufman, and Best Screenplay for Williams. It won the Golden Globe Best Picture award and was nominated for Golden Globes in four other categories. This poster is in very good condition. It has a snipe which was from The Melrose Theater. This snipe is easily removed by a competent poster conservator.

Original MGM Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the John Frakenheimer drama, ALL FALL DOWN (1962)—starring Eva Marie Saint, Warren Beatty, Karl Malden, Brandon DeWilde, and Angela Lansbury. Novelist and playwright James Leo Herlihy wrote two popular novels in the sixties: “Midnight Cowboy” and “All Fall Down.” In ALL FALL DOWN (1962), the hedonistic and womanizing elder son (Warren Beatty) of a wealthy couple (Angela Lansbury and Karl Malden) finally finds the girl to whom he believes he can be faithful (Eva Marie Saint). John Frankenheimer’s third film, ALL FALL DOWN explores what it means to be manly versus what it means to be a man and in that sense shares a common theme with MIDNIGHT COWBOY. This original three sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.

full.iconfess-italian-39x55

Italian re-release Due Foglio Poster (39×55) for the Alfred Hitchcock crime thriller, I CONFESS (1953) starring Montgomery Clift, Anne Baxter, and Karl Malden. In Quebec City, Father Logan (Clift) is accused of killing a well-known lawyer. Father Logan knows the identity of the murderer, but he can’t reveal his identity because the man confessed the crime to him in the confessional. In some respects, the film works as a response to the witch hunts of the 1950s, with a priest unwilling to testify against another person. This poster is folded and in very fine condition. One of the best posters we have seen on this underrated Hitchcock film.

In this classic study of vengeance, a half-breed (McQueen) evolves into a hardened killer as he tracks down the three men who murdered his parents. The screenplay by two-time Academy Awards nominated screenwriter John Michael Hayes is adapted from a novel by Harold Robbins. This was one of the first films to apply the contemporary standards of sex and violence to a Wild West setting. This a prequel to The Carpetbaggers (1964) which featured Alan Ladd as the older Nevada Smith. full.billiondollarbrain C 1s 2176

Original United Artists One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Ken Russell spy thriller, BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN (1967) starring Michael Caine, Karl Malden, and Ed Begley. This British parody of the spy genre was the third Harry Palmer film, after THE IPCRESS FILE (1965) and FUNERAL IN BERLIN (1966). But Russell’s visual flair and stylistic direction sets this film apart from the two earlier film’s rather drab and realistic settings. The film also has superb cinematography with atmospheric footage shot in Finland, stunning sets, a fantastic score by Richard Rodney Bennett, and terrific performances by the entire cast, especially Michael Caine. This poster is folded and is in fine plus condition.
