KEY LARGO (1948) 19441

Original Warner Brothers Insert Poster (14×36) for the John Huston film-noir masterpiece, KEY LARGO (1948) starring Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson, Lauren Bacall, and Claire Trevor. While mostly remembered, and rather inaccurately, as another in the on-screen romances between Bogart and Bacall, this story of expatriate gangsters led by mob boss Johnny Rocco (Robinson) commandeering a sleepy tropical hotel in the middle of a hurricane turned out to be one of the best movies of the 1940′s. Robinson is certainly one of the best film villains, and his portrayal of Rocco is based on the real life story of gangster Lucky Luciano who had been deported some years before. Claire Trevor won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her unforgettable role as Rocco’s alcoholic moll with a heart of gold. This poster is signed in pen by the incomparable Lauren Bacall. This original insert poster was originally folded and is in very fine condition.

DR. KILDARES STRANGE CASE (1940) 7867

Original MGM Lobby Card Set (11×14) for the Harold S. Bucquet hospital drama, DR. KILDARE’S STRANGE CASE (1940)—starring Lew Ayres, Lionel Barrymore, Laraine Day, and Shepperd Strudwick. Before the Richard Chamberlain TV Dr. Kildare in the 1960s, there were a whole series of Dr. Kildare movies made in the late 1930s and 1940s starring Lew Ayres. Ayres was a considerable star for MGM; his career was blunted, some say, by his conscientious objector status during World War II. In this film, Dr. Kildare attempts to save the reputation of a neurosurgeon (Strudwick) whose patients keep dying. This original lobby card set (title card and seven scene cards) is in very fine plus condition. And these cards come in the original MGM studio sleeve.

Original RKO Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the Frank Capra dramatic masterpiece, IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE (1946) starring James Stewart, Donna Reed, Gloria Grahame and Lionel Barrymore. This film has enduring popularity because Stewart’s character is the kind of every man we can all identify with when he confronts the “richest and meanest man in town,” demonically portrayed by Barrymore. The film received five Academy Award nominations—including Best Picture, Best Director for Capra, and Best Actor for Stewart. In this lobby card, we see Stewart confronting the despot Barrymore in a key scene. There are some small holes and spots in the image area, some surface paper loss on the left border, and faint foxing and scuffing. This original scene lobby card is overall in very good condition.
