Original First National Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the George Amy and Busby Berkeley drama, SHE HAD TO SAY YES (1933) starring Loretta Young, Winnie Lightner, and Lyle Talbot. This was Berkeley’s first directorial credit (shared with the film’s editor), and he got stuck with one of the most sleazy and sexist scripts in pre-code Hollywood, in which the boss decides to use secretaries to “entertain” clients after hours. The exploitation, manipulation, and harassment of women are the focus of every scene. Every male role is a sleazy businessman who constantly tries to trick a woman into sex or into making money for him. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition, with some minor fold separations and distresses. One of the best pre-code posters we have seen. You have to say YES.
TRADER TOM OF THE CHINA SEAS (1954) 9768

Original Republic Pictures Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the Franklin Adreon 12-chapter serial action adventure, TRADER TOM OF THE CHINA SEAS (1954)—starring Harry Lauter, Aline Towne, and Lyle Talbot. In one of the last Republic serials to be made, the United Nations has island trader Tom Rogers (Lauter) and Vivian Wells (Towne), daughter of a schooner captain, spearheading the effort to keep subversive native groups from starting a revolution in fictional “Burmatra.” This serial is typical of the Republic serials of the 1950s – adventurous, cliffhanging, episodic. This poster features the almost-pulp art which typifies the Republic style. Forget the narrative and focus on this very colorful poster, unmistakably successful in capturing the zeitgeist of the serial. This original three sheet poster is in fine condition.
