Original Astor Pictures One Sheet Poster (81×81) for the Federico Fellini masterpiece, LA DOLCE VITA (1960) starring Marcello Mastroianni, Anita Ekberg, and Anouk Aimee. The iconic image of Anita Ekberg holding a kitten – from the scene where she wades through the Trevi fountain – became the central image of the campaign for this film in the U.S. This film depicts seven days (and nights) in the life of an Italian journalist (Mastroianni), who is torn between making something serious of his life or drifting along on a pleasant stream of casual affairs and meaningless work. Fellini gives us a wonderful chronicle of a decadent society where there are no real values other than alcohol and sex, and no solutions except suicide. Fellini’s widescreen look at Roman life at the beginning of the sixties mirrors Hollywood’s fascination with historical Roman epics of the period. LA DOLCE VITA is, quite simply, one of the most famous films in the history of the cinema. It created a sensation when it was released. A landmark score by Nino Rota leaves an indelible imprint in the minds of all who see this film for the first time. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Director for Fellini, Best Screenplay, and Best Art Direction. It won the Oscar for Best Costume Design. We grade this as Fine Plus. There is a small chip missing out of the border area on the upper right corner, easily restored with linen backing. Image area is very fine. We will sell this either backed or unbacked for the price stated. Ask us about linen backing services through one of our
skilled conservationists.

Apparently also released in the U.S.A. as MATING, MODERN STYLE, probably mid sixties. Most likely capitalizing on the success of MARRIAGE, ITALIAN STYLE, YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW as well as the Fellini films starring Mastroianni, this poster is for a little known re-release of LA FORTUNA DI ESSERE DONNA. The film is described as a light entertainment about a photographer (Mastroianni) who takes a photo of a girl (Loren) that ends up on a magazine cover without her permission. The usual Italian nonsense ensues. Directed by Alessandro Blasetti. The garish poster paints an altogether more strumpet like image of the bombshell Loren. Rare. Very fine condition.

Original Embassy Pictures 30×40 Poster for the Vittorio De Sica romantic comedy, YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND TOMORROW (1963)—starring Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni. This film is series of three vignettes starring Loren and Mastroianni playing three very different couples. All three stories are funny and heart-warming. The performances are outstanding, the direction superb, and both the music and cinematography compliment the film beautifully. Indeed, the film won the Academy Award for the Best Foreign Language Film in 1965. This 30×40 poster is an unusual format for this title, and the art is different for this poster. The poster was clearly theater-used and is only classed in good condition. There are some missing chips in both borders, but the interior image area
is OK. There is some general rumpling, making this poster a good candidate for linen-backing. Ask us about poster restoration services.

This is an original Embassy Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for Vittorio De Sica’s delightful and dramatic romantic comedy, MARRIAGE ITALIAN STYLE (1964) starring Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni. This is the fascinating story of a long lover affair between a wealthy, arrogant, and selfish businessman (Mastroianni) and an ex-prostitute (Loren) who attempts to trick him into marriage by pretending to be dying and then miraculously recovering. Loren and Mastroianni are both excellent actors generally, but their on-screen chemistry is truly remarkable under expert direction and with a great script. The film received two Academy Award nominations: Best Foreign Language Film and Best Actress for Loren. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.
