Original RKO One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Chester Erskine comedy, ANDROCLES AND THE LION (1952)—starring Jean Simmons, Victor Mature, and Alan Young. Based on the play by George Bernard Shaw, this is the story of the Christian Androcles, who one day removes a huge thorn from the paw of a lion, creating a friend for life. Androcles is arrested along with other Christians and condemned to death in the arena, where his life friend the lion refuses to kill him. Shaw was always hesitant about allowing his plays to be made into films. He found a competent producer in Gabriel Pascal, who loved Shaw’s works. Shaw gave him a contract to produce all his plays, including this one that was made after Shaw’s death. This original one sheet poster is folded and in fine condition—with only some scribbling on the reverse side, minor fold separation at the fold intersection, and minor smudges.

This is an original Universal Studios Presskit for the Carl Reiner comedy THE JERK (1979) staring Steve Martin, Bernadette Peters, Jackie Mason, Maurice Evans, Bill Macy, and Mabel King. This was popular comedian Steve Martin’s film debut playing a poor “black boy” raised in the South by a black family, only to discover one day that he is really white. Martin goes from rags to riches when he invents glasses that won’t slip off your nose, but he loses his fortune when it is medically proven that the glasses cause the wearer’s eyes to cross. This original presskit is in used but good condition. It contains 9 B&W studio action stills, which are in very fine condition. It also contains press releases for the full cast and crew, plot synopsis, production notes, biographies of director Reiner and producer David V. Picker, as well as biographies of all the major actors.
