THE PRIVATE LIVES OF ADAM AND EVE (1960) 20613

full.theprivatelivesofadamandeve-wc-20613

Original Universal Pictures Window Card (14×22) for the Mickey Rooney and Albert Zugsmith comedy, THE PRIVATE LIVES OF ADAM AND EVE (1960)—starring Rooney, Mamie Van Doren, Fay Spain, Mel Torme, and Martin Milner. This is certainly one of the strangest films ever made, even for the 1960s. It has a color dream sequence where Van Doren and Milner dream they are Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Alternately clever and lame, this peculiar comedy provides mild amusement, with loads of double entendres and Rooney leering around in a silly snake suit as “The Devil.” This original window card is in fine condition—with some tape stains and stamped with the theater and playdate. The window card was used at the Nona Theater in Lafayette, Louisiana.

LIFE BEGINS FOR ANDY HARDY (1941)

full.lifebeginsforandyhardy-insert

Original MGM Insert Poster (14×36) for the Goerge B. Seitz romantic comedy, LIFE BEGINS FOR ANDY HARDY (1941). Wonderful photography of America’s favorite teenagers of the late 1930s and early 1940s, Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. Garland appeared three times as the character Betsy Booth in the Hardy series. This was her final appearance in these films, and the movie is not the usual Hardy fare. The teens must face incipient adulthood in a world soon to be at war. Mickey moves to New York City, and soon finds that the Big Apple is a place with girls – and even more serious problems, just like anywhere else. LIFE BEGINS FOR ANDY HARDY has the most intelligent script of the series. Even though Mickey Rooney would go on to make several more of these, MGM would never again try to solemnize the ritual in quite this way. This poster is on an old linen and its overall condition is very good, and while it would frame nicely, it could be rebacked. Rare in this format, we think it is the best poster for the film.

SOUND OFF (1952) 4110

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Columbia Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Richard Quine musical comedy, SOUND OFF (1952) starring Mickey Rooney, Anne James, and Sammy White. In Richard Quine’s third feature film, cocky entertainer Rooney is drafted and the fun begins. Rooney sings, dances, and is very funny throughout the movie, especially in the slapstick gags. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very good condition showing some minor wrinkles, pinholes, good integrity in the folds, but some minor staining in the border area.

BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S (1961) 19421

breakfastattiffanys 1sh 19241

Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) of the Blake Edwards romantic comedy, BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S (1961)—starring Audrey Hepburn, George Peppard, and Patricia Neal. Based on the biting novella by Truman Capote, Hepburn plays an offbeat and sophisticated party girl floating around New York in Givenchy gowns and subsisting on the favors of various rich men. She meets and eventually falls in love with writer Peppard who moves in upstairs while being “kept” by married socialite Neal. Hepburn’s grace and glamor belie a vulnerability that captures the hearts of the audience. The popular film was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Hepburn, Best Art Direction, and Best Screenplay. Henry Mancini won the Academy Award for Best Music and Johnny Mercer won for Best Song, the enchanting and popular evergreen, “Moon River.” This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in near mint condition. Beware of fakes! MovieArt will sell NO reproductions. One of the very best post-war U.S. one sheets.

This is an original MGM Insert Poster (14×36) for the Norman Taurog and Busby Berkeley musical comedy, GIRL CRAZY (1943) starring Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. Besides the on-screen magic of Judy and Mickey (their eighth film together and many believe their best), the film boasts one of the best scores of Ira and George Gershwin songs ever, captivating performances by the Tommy Dorsey Band, and even a spectacular Busby Berkeley staging of the sensational “I Got Rhythm.” For Judy, Mickey, and Gershwin fans—this film is a treasure. This original insert poster is in very fine condition.
