Original Columbia Pictures Group of Five Scene Lobby Cards (11×14) for the John Cromwell drama THE GODDESS (1958) starring Kim Stanley, Lloyd Bridges, Steven Hill, Patty Duke, and Louse Beavers. This drama, written by the brilliant Paddy Chayevsky, was basically in the form of a biopic and based around the early and upcoming years of an actress modeled on the real-life Marilyn Monroe. Kim Stanley, an acclaimed stage actress of the era, really made a splash with this performance, tearing up the screen with a degree of depth and emotion rivaled only by the likes of European actresses like Anna Magnani and Giuletta Masina. This was truly a portrait of a deepening misery and unhappiness experienced by an actress as she climbed the pinnacle of success. Stanley would make very few films over her career with this being one of the most sensational yielding her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. There are five lobbies in this group. Condition varies from Fine to Very Fine.

Original United Artists One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Arthur Penn biographical masterpiece, THE MIRACLE WORKER (1962)—starring Anne Bancroft, Victor Jory, Inga Swenson, and Patty Duke. This excellent film chronicles the struggle of Anne Sullivan (Bancroft) to teach the blind and deaf Helen Keller (Duke) to communicate. The seemingly insurmountable obstacle of “seeing” and “hearing” an unseen and unheard world is approached in a profound yet accessible manner. Bancroft and Duke could not have been better; indeed, Bancroft won the Oscar for Best Actress, and Duke won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. The film was also nominated for three other Academy Awards, including Best Director for Penn and Best Screenplay for William Gibson. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition, with only one very minor fold separation and wrinkling along fold line.

VALLEY OF THE DOLLS (1967) 18502

Original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Mark Robson camp classic, VALLEY OF THE DOLLS (1967) starring Barbara Parkins, Patty Duke, and Sharon Tate. Based on the scandalous, best-selling novel by Jacqueline Susann, this camp classic chronicles the rise and fall of three young women in show business. Although the film was listed in John Wilson’s “The Most Amusingly Bad Movies Ever Made,” it had some good qualities—including several musical numbers with beautiful arrangements by Andre Previn and John Williams and some good performances, especially from Parkins and Duke. Jacqueline Susann was a woman of the 40′s and 50′s, and her story fits that time and not the late 60s. VALLEY OF THE DOLLS is really a big-budget movie with great production values, but based on a cheesy quasi-pulp romance totally out of sync with the period in which it is set. This original one sheet poster is in fine plus condition.
