The story is about two shrewd outlaws who rob trains and banks, finally deciding to flee to Bolivia. This very stylish western was the smash hit of 1969 because of the pairing of Newman and Redford. The outstanding screenplay by William Goldman had just the right mix of comedy, wit, and adventure. Much credit should also be given to director Hill and cinematographer Conrad Hall, who gives the film a great look of the “Old West.” The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. The film won four Oscars (the most of any film that year), including Best Screenplay to Goldman. This original Italian poster is folded and in very fine condition.

CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF (1958) 20623

full.Cat on a Hot Tin Roof dsc_5502

Original MGM Six Sheet Poster (27×41) for the iconic American film CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF (1958) starring Paul Newman, Burl Ives, Jack Carson, Judith Anderson and, of course, Elizabeth Taylor in one of her greatest roles. Taylor plays the beautiful and sultry wife of the alcoholic and sexually ambivalent young football player Brick (Newman). Brick is the son of an autocratic Southern patriarch who is known in the play only as Big Daddy, played wonderfully by the great Burl Ives. Jack Carson, Judith Anderson and Madeleine Sherwood flesh out the cast, as they work through the stew of Tennessee Williams’ tangle of desires and ambitions. One of the great American plays, whose influence on the American Theater cannot be overestimated, is transformed into a remarkable film by director Richard Brooks. Maggie the cat is shown on the poster where her appeal is most apparent – on the bed. The poster is backed on a thinner, European style linen and is in very fine plus condition. Note the presence of a censor stamp in the background area. This can be left on or removed. Rebacking is not necessary, but is certainly possible for an even better look. One of the great American six sheets and one of the nicest Elizabeth Taylor images. Classic.

full.hombre-1sh-teaser-1868

This is an original 20th Century-Fox Advance One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Martin Ritt suspenseful western melodrama, HOMBRE (1967) starring Paul Newman, Fredric March, and Richard Boone. This brutal western is certainly one of Newman’s best performances playing a white man raised by Apaches. When his real father dies and leaves him a boarding house, he decides to sell it and winds up accompanying the former residents of the boarding house on a stagecoach journey to Bisbee. Newman portrays a quintessential stoic who speaks laconically in clipped sentences in a solemn and monotonous voice. The story deals with racial bias, hypocrisy, greed, nobility, and resignation. Superbly written and acted, HOMBRE is considered by many to be one of the best westerns ever made. This original advance one sheet poster is printed on quality one sheet stock with a matte finish. It is folded and in fine plus condition, with only the slightest fold separations.

SLAP SHOT (1977) 16271

full.slapshot 1sh 16271

Original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the George Roy Hill hockey drama, SLAP SHOT (1977) starring Paul Newman, Strother Martin, Michael Ontkean, and Jennifer Warren. After the success of THE STING (1973), Paul Newman wanted to do another film with George Roy Hill. That film turned out to be SLAP SHOT, one of the best sports-related films of the late seventies. The film concerns a down on their luck scrappy hockey team facing the travails of aging players, volatile relationships, sagging economics, competition and the endless rigors of touring. From this soup comes one of the funniest, most foul-mouthed, and liveliest films of Newman’s career. Add a dash of vintage seventies music and mix with some good sex and a lot of the famed Newman charm and you have SLAP SHOT. With artwork by Arno, this original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.
