Original Warner Brothers Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the Michael Curtiz war drama, PASSAGE TO MARSEILLE (1944) starring Humphrey Bogart, Claude Rains, Michele Morgan, Sydney Greenstreet, and Peter Lorre. Many people consider this film an attempt to recapture the magic of CASABLANCA (1942); indeed, both films had many of the same cast as well as the same director, screenwriter, composer, and producer. This film is also a rousing piece of war propaganda, but has Bogart playing a French journalist framed for murder because of his political beliefs. He is sent to Devil’s Island but escapes with four comrades, who eventually wind up on a French freighter bound for home. In a great action sequence toward the end of the film, Bogart and his cohorts prevent the takeover of the ship by Nazi sympathizers. This original scene card of men boarding a ship is in fine condition with only some minor pinholes, slight discoloration, and minor surface wear.

THE RAVEN (1963) 7420

full.theraven-6sh-7420

Original American International Pictures Six Sheet Poster (81×81) for the Roger Corman comedy/horror classic, THE RAVEN (1963) starring horror all-stars Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, and Boris Karloff. This film is a follow up to the earlier Corman/Poe box office success–TALES OF TERROR (1962). And like the earlier film, this witty screenplay is also written by Richard Matheson and based on the work of Edgar Allan Poe. However, the script has almost nothing to do with Poe’s famous poem. The film has excellent and stylized direction by Corman, remarkable sets by Daniel Haller, colorful costumes, and great special effects for the time. This original six sheet poster is in four panels (shown here assembled) and is in near mint condition.

This is an original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Norman Foster mystery thriller, THINK FAST, MR. MOTO (1937) starring Peter Lorre, Virginia Field, Thomas Beck, and Sig Ruman. This was the first of eight films that Lorre—a Hungarian Jew fresh out of Hitler’s Germany– did for Fox in which he portrayed the Japanese detective Mr. Moto based on the novels of John Marquand. These eight films established Lorre as one of Hollywood’s most beloved personalities. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine plus condition with some restoration repairing minor tears and missing chips. There are minor stresses at the fold lines; otherwise, the poster presents beautifully.

Henreid also falls under the spell of the incredibly beautiful Lamarr who guards her secrets carefully. The film was not well received, but this poster is classic Warner Brothers design. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine condition.

CASABLANCA (1942) 6862

full.casablanca Cbelgian 6862

Original Belgian Poster (14×21) for the Michael Curtiz romantic classic, CASABLANCA (1942) starring Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid, and Claude Rains. This title has become America’s most popular and beloved film of all time not only because of an inspired script, but also superlative performances by all, a wonderful score by Max Steiner, and faultless direction by Director Curtiz. This turbulent love story with harrowing intrigue opened on Thanksgiving Day in 1942 at the Hollywood Theater in New York three weeks after the Allies landed at Casablanca. The film catapulted the beautiful Swedish actress Bergman into superstar status. The film also advanced Bogart from his former gangster roles to the first of many romantic leads. Bergman had never worked with Bogart before this film and never would again. The movie received eight Academy Award nominations including Best Actor for Bogart, and Best Supporting Actor for Rains. The film won Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Director. This original Belgian poster is in fine plus condition, but showing some wear. We think it would benefit from linen backing. Because of it’s relatively small size, linen backing would not be particularly expensive here. There are two editions of the post-war Belgian poster on this title. This is the second printed edition. Ask us about linen backing! We can recommend good conservationists who will do a fine job.

TALES OF TERROR (1962) 4893

full.talesofterror-3sh

Original American International Pictures Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the Roger Corman horror classic, TALES OF TERROR (1962) starring horror all-stars Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, and Basil Rathbone. This trilogy is a very loose adaptation by Richard Matheson of three of Edgar Allan Poe’s stories. These stories are not for the hardcore horror fan, but rather have a camp and kooky style that is as much about comedy as about horror. Roger Corman directed eight movies based on Poe’s stories. TALES OF TERROR was the fourth one and implements a wicked sense of humor for the first time that will become the trademark of the later films. This original three sheet poster is in very fine condition.
