This is an original British One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Laurence Olivier Shakespearean masterpiece, RICHARD III (1955). In addition to Olivier directing and playing the title role, he is joined by four other knighted British thespians—Cedric Hardwicke, Ralph Richardson, John Gielgud, and Stanley Baker. The beautiful and talented Claire Bloom plays The Lady Anne. This is probably the finest example of a Machiavellian monarch on film. King Richard was capable of using deception, manipulation, and outright murder to achieve his goals. Laurence Olivier was the greatest Shakespearean actor of his time, and this role was certainly one of his best. This original British stone lithograph one sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine condition with some touch-up to the fold lines and restoration to the border area.

full-theavengers-1sh-6531

Original Paramount Pictures Style A One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Harold French war drama, THE AVENGERS (1942)—starring Hugh Williams, Griffith Jones, Deborah Kerr, and Ralph Richardson. 1940s British cinema is understandably packed with wartime propaganda pieces, and this film (British title: THE DAY WILL DAWN) is markedly more propagandistic than most of the period. Williams plays a British foreign correspondent investigating German U-boat activities in Norway. The Brits of course save the day from the cowardly Germans. And though sacrifice is made; the greater good is served. Notice the Morse Code dot-dot-dot-dash across the bottom — the Allies moniker of Victory.
