THE OTHER LOVE (1947) 8071

Original United Artists three sheet for the Andre DeToth film THE OTHER LOVE, starring Barbara Stanwyck, Richard Conte and David Niven. The film was produced by David Lewis. Lewis had been Irving Thalberg’s assistant at MGM and he worked on CAMILLE, a film that bears a strong resemblance to THE OTHER LOVE. Stanwyck is a concert pianist who suffers from tuberculosis. She goes to a convalescent facility in Switzerland where she meets a doctor with a great bedside manner played by David Niven. No spoilers here except to say she ignores the doctor’s orders and runs off inadvisedly with a race car driver, deftly portrayed by Conte. Stone lithograph. This poster has some small amount of missing paper at the fold intersection. Three sheets are generally printed on two sections. This poster was probably used, but the two sections have
not been joined.

13 RUE MADELEINE (1946) 6327

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet poster for the Henry Hathaway World War II drama 13 RUE MADELEINE starring James Cagney, Annabella, Richard Conte, and Frank Latimore. This is really more of an espionage film than a war movie. It was released shortly after World War II ended. Fox used locations in Boston and filmed also in Quebec to simulate the Paris location.
Suspenseful and satisfying, 13 RUE MADELEINE is a fondly remembered Cagney vehicle. The one sheet is in excellent condition, very fine plus, and is expertly linen backed. A nice example of 20th Century Fox stone lithography. Ready to frame.

ASSAULT ON A QUEEN (1966) 9818

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Paramount One Sheet Poster for the Jack Donohue crime caper movie ASSAULT ON A QUEEN (1966) starring Frank Sinatra, Virna Lisi, Anthony Franciosa, and Richard Conte. Sinatra stars as an American who helps a German restore a World War II era U-Boat in order to lead an assault on the Ocean Liner Queen Mary. This film was an effort to create a caper adventure along the lines of OCEAN’S 11. The results were not quite that, but still not too boring. Sinatra gets to escape with Virna Lisi to South America so all is not lost. Some soiling on the reverse side which does not affect the front side at all. No fold separations; colors are bright. Very fine condition.

This is an original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Otto Preminger film noir, WHIRLPOOL (1949) starring Gene Tierney, Richard Conte, Jose Ferrer, and Charles Bickford. This film is part psychological drama and part film noir. The beautiful wife (Tierney) of a famous psychoanalyst Dr. William Sutton (Conte) gets caught stealing an expensive pin from a department store. An infamous astrologer David Korvo (Ferrer) comes to her aid and uses hypnosis to make her an unconscious party to an elaborate scheme involving murder. All of the acting performances are good, especially Tierney who does an outstanding job at portraying both the vulnerability and desperation of her character; indeed, the actress used the film as a mini “comeback” after a two-year absence. The black and white cinematography and use of the camera are very good. This original one sheet poster is in very fine condition.

SOMEWHERE IN THE NIGHT (1946) 17128

Original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Joseph L. Mankiewicz film noir classic, SOMEWHERE IN THE NIGHT (1946) starring John Hodiak, Lloyd Nolan, Josephine Hutchinson, Richard Conte, and a 19-year-old Nancy Guild. Hodiak is an extremely convincing amnesiac veteran, who after returning from the war must make a whole new life in his homeland that has turned into alien territory. A pleasure to watch in terms of plot and atmosphere with excellent dialogue. The many nightscapes generate a menacing look at post-war Los Angeles. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine plus condition.
