DESERTO ROSSO (1965) 8035 [RED DESERT]

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Cineriz Italian Locandina Poster (11×27) for the Michelangelo Antonioni drama, IL DESERTO ROSSO (1965) starring Monica Vitti, Richard Harris, and Carlo Chionetti. Vitti plays a mother and housewife who is married to a plant manger (Chionetti) in Ravenna. She is also becoming more and more alienated from everything in her world. This was Antonioni’s first film in color, and he uses the color to further enhance the pervasive feeling of isolation. He had the landscapes painted so that everything looked unreal. And this cold and industrial landscape begins to suffocate the audience as much as it suffocates Vitti. Is she suffering from true mental illness or an inability to adapt to this wasteland? This is certainly one of the most memorable films about alienation in the modern age. This original Italian locandina is folded and in fine plus condition.

MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY (1962) 1130

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Polish Poster (27×41) for the Lewis Milestone/Carroll Reed historical drama, MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY (1962) starring Marlon Brando, Trevor Howard, Richard Harris, Hugh Griffith, Chips Rafferty, Gordon Jackson, Frank Silvera and Tarita. This was the second remake of the classic Nordoff/Hall tale of the infamous mutiny by Officer Fletcher Christian and his followers against the egomaniacal and cruel Captain Bligh. The film was not a commercial success, due, in great part, to Brando’s choice of playing Christian as an effeminate fop — hardly the expectation of audiences after Clark Gable’s sturdy, masculine performance in the Oscar winner from 1935. Poster design features a contemporary pop art image of the ship aflame in turquoise Pacific waters. Very Fine Plus.

CAPRICE (1967) 18511

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for Frank Tashlin’s CAPRICE (1967) starring Doris Day, Richard Harris, Ray Walston, Lilia Skala, Richard Mulhere and Irene Tsu. This wacky pop-art 1960s spy comedy found Doris Day working as an industrial designer/espionage agent in the cosmetics industry — with hilarious and surprisingly suspenseful results a la James Bond. The poster is folded and has been graded in very fine condition due to a small abrasion to the reverse side. Otherwise we would have graded this nice example very fine to near mint.

Set in German-occupied Norway, this British film is an “embellished” account of the remarkable efforts of the Norwegian resistance to sabotage the German development of an atomic bomb toward the end of World War II. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very good condition, with pinholes and some rumpling.

full.thenightfighters-22x28

Original United Artists Half Poster (22×28) for the Tay Garnett war drama, THE NIGHT FIGHTERS (1960) starring Robert Mitchum, Richard Harris, and Anne Heywood. This original British production was titled A TERRIBLE BEAUTY in the UK. Set in Ireland in 1941, Mitchum is a new recruit in a small cell of IRA soldiers trying to free Ireland from Britain. When the IRA decides to collaborate with the Nazis against the British, Mitchum thinks they have lost sight of their original values and betrays the cause. This original half sheet poster has one one razor cut in the poster which we have mended with archival tissue; otherwise, the condition is very good.

CAMELOT (1967) 14148

full camelot r73 40x60 14148

This is a scarce 40×60 – large poster – for the 1973 re-release of CAMELOT, starring Vanessa Redgrave, Richard Harris, David Hemmings and Franco Nero. The film featured the incredible music and lyrics of Frederick Loewe and Alan J. Lerner. The film was directed by Joshua Logan. This 40×60 offers the Bob Peak art that was used only for roadshow posters in the original campaign of 1967. This was the art that was also used for the soundtrack record cover. Original release posters for CAMELOT with this art are very scarce, and this re-release poster is almost identical to the original except for the tag line at the top of the poster. This poster is rolled – never folded – and has some modest signs of wear as it was a theater-used poster. MovieArt will sell NO reproductions. Lovely ethereal image of Redgrave.
