full.roadhouse 1s 8740

Original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Jean Negulesco film noir thriller, ROAD HOUSE (1948) starring Ida Lupino, Cornel Wilde, and Richard Widmark. Roadhouse owner, Jefty Robbins (Widmark), hires sultry, tough-talking torch singer Lily (Lupino) against the advise of his manager Pete Morgan (Wilde). When Robbins falls for Lily, she turns her attentions to the Pete who is playing hard to get. This is certainly one of Lupino’s best performances, and her rendition of the song “One for My Baby” is a wonderful combination of alcohol and cigarettes. Widmark is at his best when he is playing a “psycho villain” role, and Jefty’s murderous jealously produces a twisted plot to “punish” the two lovers. The direction, screenplay, and cinematography are all excellent in this film. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in good condition with some restoration touch-up and repair of missing chips. Minor water stain in upper border area.

SAINT JOAN (1957) 18350

full.Saint Joan LB NM 18350

Original United Artists Six Sheet Poster (81×81) for the Otto Preminger epic biography, SAINT JOAN (1957)—starring Richard Widmark, Richard Todd, Anton Walbrook, and Jean Seberg. Adapted for screen by Graham Greene based on the play by George Bernard Shaw, this film is the story of Saint Joan of Arc, a peasant girl born in eastern France, who led the French army to several important victories during the Hundred Years’ War (1335-1453) and was indirectly responsible for the coronation of Charles VII. Joan (Seberg in her film debut) is presented as a divinely inspired innocent while the all-male ensemble that surround her are all scheming, Machiavellian opportunists who treat religion as a tool to be used and manipulated for their own ends. Joan is portrayed as both saint and madwoman, while Widmark portrays the future king of France in a frenzied and comic caricature. With stunning art by legendary Saul Bass, this original six sheet poster is linen-backed and in near mint condition.
