Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Mark Robson war biography, THE INN OF THE SIXTH HAPPINESS (1958)—starring Ingrid Bergman, Curd Jurgens, and Robert Donat. Based on the novel “The Small Woman” by Alan Burgess, this film chronicles the life of Gladys Aylward, who always believing she should go to China does finally go there. She slowly wins over the local population with her good works and saves one hundred motherless children when the Japanese invade China in 1931 by marching them to a mission safe in the interior. This film marked the return of Ingrid Bergman to American films after years of exile over her affair with Italian director Roberto Rosselini. The film received the sumptuous and smart CinemaScope treatment from 20th Century Fox, with a good score from Sir Malcolm Arnold. Arnold had written the classic score for David Lean’s THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI and the Arnold touch lent quite a bit to THE INN OF THE SIXTH HAPPINESS.
This original one sheet poster is folded and in fine plus condition, with some minor fold separations in the top border area and at the fold intersection.
