WE’VE NEVER BEEN LICKED (1943) 2499B

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Universal Pictures Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the John Rawlins war drama, WE’VE NEVER BEEN LICKED (1943) starring Richard Quine, Noah Beery Jr., Anne Gwynne, and a young Robert Mitchum (only in the second year of his film career). Much of the movie was filmed on the Texas A&M campus in College Station, Texas. The scenes of life in the Corps of Cadets, the mascot Reveille, and the “Aggie War Hymm” played by the Fighting Aggies Marching Band are all extremely interesting as an example of what life was like on the campus in the early forties. Indeed, for many years after the film was made Aggie Cinema would show the film to every incoming freshman class at the outdoor cinema, The Grove. The blatant anti-Japanese message now categorizes this film as war propaganda, but you also have to remember that the attack on Pearl Harbor was still fresh in the audience’s mind. Robert Mitchum supposedly hated his performance so much that he bought as many of the existing prints as possible and burned them. Arch rivals at The University of Texas refer to this film as We’ve Never Been LIKED! Minor pinholes, otherwise quite good. Color vivid.

HOLIDAY AFFAIR (1949) 2040

full.holidayaffair-1sh-2040

Original RKO One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Don Hartman holiday-themed romantic comedy, HOLIDAY AFFAIR (1949)—starring Robert Mitchum, Janet Leigh, and Wendell Corey. Released on Christmas Eve in 1949, this bright and engaging comedy has single-mom Leigh being wooed by two men over the Christmas holidays—the warm-hearted dreamer Mitchum and seriously dull Corey. Both 20-year-old Leigh and her young 8-year-old son Gordon Gebbert are innocent and charming. Robert Mitchum departed from his usual machismo in to make this seasonal romantic comedy. The film was such a flop that RKO backed out of it’s contract with director Don Hartman. However, HOLIDAY AFFAIR has become a popular Christmas movie over the years thanks to regular TV broadcasts during the holiday season. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.

THE LOCKET (1946) 7567

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original RKO One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the John Brahm film noir, THE LOCKET (1946) starring Laraine Day, Brian Aherne, Robert Mitchum, and Gene Raymond. This is the story of Nancy (Day) who seems like an ideal bride for John (Raymond). But John meets a man who claims to be Nancy’s former husband and warns John that she is a kleptomaniac and habitual liar. This intricately constructed film is centered around the “locket” – signifying both repressed memories and the opening up of those hidden memories. By setting most of the film in flashback, Director Brahm places most of the action in an imaginatively reconstructed past, dream-like past. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine plus condition.

SECOND CHANCE (1953) 5843

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Belgian poster for the Rudolph Mate film SECOND CHANCE (1953) starring Robert Mitchum, Linda Darnell, and Jack Palance. This was originally an action-packed 3D movie produced during the first attempt by the studios to create a unique movie-going magnet designed to pull viewers away from their newly acquired TV sets. The excitement in SECOND CHANCE takes place south of the border with a suspenseful scene aboard an aerial tramway climaxing the film. The poster is in good condition and the image area is fine. The Belgian censor stamps are attached. The top of the poster has been trimmed.

THE LAST TIME I SAW ARCHIE (1961) 20617

full.thelasttimeisawarchie-wc-20617

Original United Artists Window Card (14×22) for the Jack Webb comedy, THE LAST TIME I SAW ARCHIE (1961)—starring Jack Webb, Robert Mitchum, Martha Hyer, and France Nuyen. By 1960, the popular TV series “Dragnet” had ended, and Jack Webb decided to concentrate on feature films. This feature is a series of comedy vignettes about a stateside camp of “leftovers” from a unit that trained pilots too old for combat duty in World War II. Mitchum plays Pvt. Archie Hall, a petty schemer who is mesmerized by his own feelings of self-importance. Webb plays Pvt. Bill Bowers, who is the “buddy” who goes along for the ride. The film was such a commercial flop that Webb would never make another feature film; rather, he would return to television for the rest of his career. This original window card is in fine plus condition. As is the case with most window cards that are theater used, the name of the theater and playdate are stamped on the card. This original window card was used at the Nona Theater in Lafayette, Louisiana.

CAPE FEAR (1962) 10167

capefear-3sh

Original Universal Pictures Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the J. Lee Thompson crime thriller, CAPE FEAR (1962)—starring Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum, and Polly Bergen. Enduringly suspenseful, dark, edgy, and profound– in this 1962 thriller, ex-con Max Cady (Mitchum) terrorizes the family of Georgia prosecutor Max Bowden (Peck), whom Cady blames for his incarceration. Mitchum’s Cady is intelligent, patient, meticulous, and brutal– a terrifyingly realistic villain who drives the otherwise upstanding Bowden to desperate, erroneous means to save his wife and child. CAPE FEAR illuminates the ethical boundaries of a man protecting his family, and the prosaic violence and constant threat of sexual assault make the film incredibly adult. Although director Lee J. Thompson was careful to never use the word “rape” in the film or to depict any sexual violence, the mere intimation made censors wary and thus the film was cut in some countries. This original three sheet poster is folded and in fine plus condition.

FOREIGN INTRIGUE (1956) 9386

full.foreignintrigue-sc

Trying to find out more about his employer’s life, Bishop discovers that his boss was blackmailing people who cooperated with the Nazis in World War II. THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER (1955) 14621

full.The Night of the Hunter

Original United Artists Three Sheet Poster (39.5×78) for the Charles Laughton film-noir thriller, THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER (1955) starring Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters, and Lillian Gish. Beloved by Mitchum fans and considered by many to be a horror masterpiece, the film was a critical and box office flop. So much so that director Laughton swore he would never direct another film—and he didn’t. Mitchum gives a stunning and frightening performance as a religious fanatic who marries and murders widows for their money, believing he was helping God rid the world of women who arouse men’s carnal instincts. This original three sheet poster is linen-backed but is graded as good because the linen backing is old. MovieArt will sell this three sheet completely rebacked afresh for $900 or reduce the price to $500 as is.
