Original Paramount Pictures Six Sheet Poster (81×81) for the John Farrow war drama, WAKE ISLAND (1942) starring Brian Donlevy, Macdonald Carey, Robert Preston, and William Bendix. This was the first war movie made after the attack on Pearl Harbor; indeed, Paramount began work on the film before the real battle for Wake Island was over. Though some consider this film just American war propaganda, it tires to tell the story of a small detachment of Marines and civilian contractors who held the Japanese at bay for about two weeks and did this on their own knowing there would likely be no reinforcements sent to help them. The film received four Academy Award nominations—including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director for Farrow, and Best Supporting Actor for Bendix. This original six sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine condition.

Original Italian 79×55 for the Morton DaCosta film of the Meredith Wilson musical, THE MUSIC MAN (1962)—starring Robert Preston, Shirley Jones, Buddy Hackett, and Hermione Gingold. This film is certainly one of the best film adaptations of a Broadway musical. The original Broadway production of THE MUSIC MAN opened at the Majestic Theater on December 19, 1957, won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1958, and ran for 1375 performances. Even though Robert Preston had never appeared in a musical before or even sang a note, the role turned out to be one of his most memorable performances, and he won the 1958 Tony Award for Best Actor in a musical. Preston repeated his role for the Warner Brothers film version opposite Shirley Jones. The film version preserved all of the charm of the stage hit. This Italian poster is far superior to any U.S. poster for the film, accenting the scarlet uniform of the band director. Professor Harold Hill! Colors are vivid, no fold separations, but in the border area a small chip is missing. A nice example of this poster.

Original Universal Pictures Advance One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Nick Castle sci-fi adventure, THE LAST STARFIGHTER (1984)—starring Lance Guest, Dan O’Herlihy, Catherine Mary Stewart, and Robert Preston. Video gaming teenager Alex (Guest) becomes the top player of an arcade game called “Starfighter.” When he meets the game’s inventor (Preston), he gets unintentionally conscripted into a real combat to save the universe from invasion. With a good story, credible performances, and great special effects for the day—this sci-fi film is very entertaining. This original advance one sheet poster is in very fine condition.

Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Louis King adventure classic, TYPHOON (1940) starring Dorothy Lamour, Robert Preston, and Lynne Overman. This is the exciting story of two men (Preston and Overman) searching for black pearls, who get marooned on an island when their crew mutinies. There they meet a beautiful girl (Lamour) who was washed up on the island in her childhood. They must fight angry natives and a typhoon in order to survive. The spectacular fire and subsequent tidal wave in the last 10 minutes garnered the film an Academy Award nomination for Best Special Effects. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in very good plus condition with some restoration at fold lines and repairs of missing chips. Linen backing has been trimmed to poster dimensions.
