Original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Sydney Pollack African adventure drama, OUT OF AFRICA (1985) starring Meryl Streep, Robert Redford, and Klaus Maria Bandauer. This masterpiece follows the life of Karen Blixen (Streep), a Danish baroness who established a plantation in Africa. The film is excellent in almost every respect; indeed, it was nominated for eleven Academy Awards. It won seven Oscars—including Best Picture, Best Director to Pollack, Best Cinematography, and Best Screenplay. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very good condtion, with a very small water stain in the border and a small chip missing from the lower right border area.

Redford portrays a low-level CIA operative working in Manhattan. One morning, while stepping out for coffee, the entire staff of his unit is brutally murdered. It is up to him to solve the puzzle and bring some sense of justice to a world gone mad.. Director Pollock wisely utilizes the two leads to find a crackling romantic tension that mirrors the film’s breathless suspense. The poster design features a broken link connected to a chain link taloned to a surface like the claws of a bird of prey. Is the CIA evil? Much credit should also be given to director Hill and cinematographer Conrad Hall, who gave the film a great look of the “Old West.” The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. The film won four Oscars (the most of any film that year), including Best Screenplay to Goldman. Fine condition. The poster is folded and one extra fold exists. Was theater used. It is a bit rumpled and there are staple holes where it was pinned up at the theater. Color is good.

In one of the best films of the 1970s, Streisand and Redford play two opposites—she is a stern and serious political activist and he is an easygoing and laid-back writer– who finally come together only to grow apart later. Although perhaps very sentimental at times, there is excellent chemistry between the two very believable characters. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards, including a Best Actress nomination for Streisand. Marvin Hamlish won the Oscar for Best Original Score and the title song won the Oscar for Best Original Song. Fine plus condition, theater used, but with no fold separations. There is a tear in the top border area which we have repaired with archival tissue.

Wood gives a most compelling character portrayal of the talented teenager, especially when she realizes that she is nothing more than a Hollywood commodity. Plummer gives a great performance as head of the mythical Swan Studios. Redford’s portrayal of a homosexual actor in 1930s Hollywood created a sensation. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards, including a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Ruth Gordon. This original window card is in very fine plus condition.
