This grand and opulent saga recounts the life of Pu Yi, once the child Emperor of China, following his young, dissolute life and exploitation by the Japanese in WWII through his inevitable disgrace at the hands of the Maoist revolutionaries of the Cultural Revolution. Bertolucci’s film was his greatest international success garnering multiple Academy Awards. The artwork on this Polish poster is colorful, dramatic and striking in its rendering of Lone’s character. Original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Nagisa Oshima war drama, MERRY CHRISTMAS MR. LAWRENCE (1983)—starring David Bowie, Tom Conti, and Ryuichi Sakamoto. This film tells the story of British major Jack Celliers (Bowie) who comes to a Japanese P.O.W. camp in 1942. The film shows most poignantly the physical and mental abuse the prisoners had to live with day in and day out. The eponymous Mr. Lawrence (Conti) has a most difficult time trying to reconcile his respect for Japanese culture with the total barbarity of the camp. This original one sheet poster is folded and in fine plus condition.
