Some critics have seen this film as a clever parable that satirizes the emptiness of middle class values, the absurdity of human priorities, and our futile attempt to break away. Altman also treats the film as a giant bird watching extravaganza, planting bird references everywhere throughout the film. But it has not been lost on many fans of this film that the whole movie is an allegory about LSD and the counterculture of the late sixties. And interesting musical score by John Phillips.
