Original United Artists One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the William Dieterle family romance, I’LL BE SEEING YOU (1944) starring Ginger Rogers, Joseph Cotton, and Shirley Temple. Rogers plays a convict released from the state penitentiary for Christmas leave. On the train, she meets and befriends a soldier (Cotton) who has just been released from a mental hospital. Although Rogers does not sing or dance once in this film, she does deliver one of the best dramatic performances of her career. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very good condition—with some pinholes, some paper tape on the reverse side, and a minor fold separation at the fold intersection.

FORT APACHE (1948) 20358

full.fortapache-belgian

FORT APACHE stands apart from many westerns of the late 40s and 50s as a far more thoughtful and fair interpretation of US/Indian relations in the mid-19th century, and is considered one of Ford’s masterpieces. Wayne plays Capt. York, a veteran Civil War commander assigned to take charge of a remote outpost in Arizona. He arrives to find acting commander Lt. Col. Thursday (Henry Fonda) undermining the local Apache leaders and turning a blind eye to the government liaison’s corruption. As York and Thursday butt heads over whether to treat the natives with respect or force them to submit, the Apache leader Cochise (Miguel Inclan) organizes an uprising that slaughters most of the cavalrymen a la Little Bighorn. One of 24 John Ford films starring John Wayne, FORT APACHE also features Ward Bond, John Agar, and a 19-year old Shirley Temple.

Original 20th Century Fox Three Sheet Poster (41.25×78.75) for the Allan Dwan musical family drama, YOUNG PEOPLE (1940) starring Shirley Temple, Jack Oakie, and Charlotte Greenwood. The story involves a vaudeville couple (Oakie and Greenwood) who adopt a baby girl (Temple) and then decide to retire from show business so Temple can have a normal life when she’s growing up. It was Temple’s last film for Fox and her final “little girl” performance. It marked the end of an era for the legendary child star who delighted movie audiences in the 1930s, but whose popular box-office appeal was now fading—and fading fast. This original three sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine condition.

Original Fox Film Corporation One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Hamilton MacFadden depression-era musical fantasy, STAND UP AND CHEER! (1934) starring Warner Baxter, Madge Evans, and Shirley Temple. The cast was amplified by a motley group of Fox players: John Boles, Sylvia Froos, Arthur Byron, Ralph Morgan, Nigel Bruce, “Skins” Miller, Lucien LIttlefield, Nick Foran, Mitchell & Durant, as well as the famous black character actor Stepin Fetchit. The premise of this film is that Americans can beat the depression by learning to smile, to laugh, and eventually, to “stand up and cheer.” Baxter has the main role as the Secretary of Amusement, a post that Will Rogers had already suggested at the beginning of the depression. Shirley Temple, easily the most famous and popular child star of all time, was five-years-old at the time of this film was made and had already appeared in a series of features and shorts. But in this film, by singing, dancing and pure charm, she marched her way straight into America’s heart. Indeed, by 1935 she would begin to star in a string of classic family films. This original one sheet poster is in very fine to near mint condition. The great art on this poster is by the illustrator Russell Patterson.
