In addition to Olivier directing and playing the title role, he is joined by four other knighted British thespians—Cedric Hardwicke, Ralph Richardson, John Gielgud, and Stanley Baker. The beautiful and talented Claire Bloom plays The Lady Anne. This is probably the finest example of a Machiavellian monarch on film. King Richard was capable of using deception, manipulation, and outright murder to achieve his goals. Laurence Olivier was the greatest Shakespearean actor of his time, and this role was certainly one of his best. Set in the dark days of apartheid in South Africa, this film is about an African tribesman who is seeking revenge against the people who murdered his daughter. His crusade eventually leads him to the “whiteman’s” court, where justice for blacks does not exist at that time. This original one sheet poster is in fine plus condition, with some wrinkling.
